I'm a "picker".
I guess I hold it with my left hand (not sure, not holding any yarn)
From what I've gathered, I'm a "continental" knitter. I find having to let go of my needle and wrap the yarn around the needle takes too much time. I guess that's just the crocheter in me!
I hold it with my right hand. I am left-handed, and though I don't follow the directions for left-handed knitting I am primarily a crocheter, so I use my nondominant hand for yarn always.
The yarn is wrapped around fingers of my left hand and picked up with the right needle as I go. I don't wrap the yarn by hand but let the needle grab it. Does that make sense?

my mother is German and she taught me how to knit. I had no trouble following knitting but her purl method completely threw me. Did your mother teach you to purl? My mother's purl techniqure really resembled a crochet move. Lots of needle moving and yarn wrapping LOL
