so tell me what i am doing wrong please...

ok so i have decided to teach myself to learn to knit. I am excited. today i learned to cast on,esy enough. then it came to the first stitch...i get the right needle in the first loop...i am pretty sure i have it in the right place..though i coudl take a pic and post it jsut to be sure. then i put the needles in a cros...now this is where things start going hay wire...i think i put the yarn inbetween the two needles from left to right, and then pull it through..ok but then i have a big loop and a loop and aslip knot..adn well that's i..i dont' know what to do iwt it.. do i tighten it up..do i put part of the right needles into the loop...( ithink this is what i am supposed to do. if so which part? I jst can't make heads or talils of the instructions and ds is awake so i cant' keep experimenting. I really really want to elarn to knit. i ahve never had a real tangible skill so pelase help.

ok thanks..if you need clarification or pics jsut let me know..i'll try my best to explain..and have dh take pics over my choulder if need be.

Wow Selissa, your description made my head spin I have no idea how to explain it in written form. I used the bood "Stitch and Bi***" to learn and I was able to cast on and do both knit and purl by the time my son woke up from a nap. In the past I couldn't figure out knitting to save my life.

Good luck!

Has great free videos on the basics, I went back to these so many times the first couple months ok even months later lol I couldn;t remember how to cast on my first few projects. I tried American first and could just not get the hang of it, to me Continental is so much easier and most people agree faster. Hope these help--nak
