venting Lice!!! (*@#(*!&)(*&#$

grr-so yesterday a newer friend stopped by my house around 3:30-4pm

we visited for awhile.

dh gets home at 6:30, she is still there. so he does the polite thing and invites her and her dd for dinner.

the night gets longer and longer and longer. I am falling asleep on the couch I am so tired. Isabella is screaming because our routine was messed up. She keeps talking and talking. I can think of no polite way to say "I need to go to bed" since I had been yawning and making comments for hours and it wasn't sinking in!

she leaves at 4am this morning. yes--4 am!!! I am so tired, I can't even begin to say how tired i am.

so this morning she calls. she took her dd to daycare today, and they called her to say she is infested with lice.

her dd had been all over our home (12 hours...) had slept on kaitlyns bed ... everything.

so now I guess I have to bad up everything and wash everything and start treatments on everyone? (or can the treatments wait until we see if it is their hair??)

and besides the RID spray, is there anything else I can spray in the house on the carpets etc?

I know it is not her fault at all! but I am just banging my head in frustration!

and the worst part?? I missed American Idol!!!!!

4 am???? What time does this womans child go to bed, and daycare??????

Sorry on the lice...yuck. I'd try washing everything in hot, double rinse...and vacuuming realllllly well, and then tossing the vacuum bag. Then hope for the best.

yes! 4 am! Her daughter was asleep in the girls room with them. I understand that she was really needing some help....but contrary to how I am on this board sometimes--I am a total softie!

she is in daycare 3 days a week. E (the mom) is adopting her (she is the one I posted about before--from Haiti and has AIDS) and the public school system just doesn't work with her. So on the 3 days that E does homehealth care T (dd) goes to daycare.

I am so disgusted though...and itching all over! LOL

We just got done with this ~ the boys got it from school.

I wouldn't spray ANYTHING except tea tree oil and water. The school nurse said the sprays are not proven safe for kids/people and just like if you would leave the house if you did a bug bomb, these are just as potent. Get 100% tea tree oil and put that and water in a spray bottle and spray it on everything.

I'd check their hair before doing anything, but they're nasty little suckers. Chances are they got them. Look for the eggs (white specks that look like dandruff, but unlike dandruff do not just fall off the hair when shook) and look for the bugs, although chances are you may not find many bugs, YET.

I was told that the OTC shampoos do not do much, but we did two treatments of it, anyway. Caitlyn was the absolute most difficult to get them out of her hair b/c she had so much and they could hide so easily. She's still itching her head from the darn scabs and she hasn't had any bugs or eggs in days now.

(((HUGS)))

Oh Jessica this SUCKS!! Lice strikes the fear of god in me, I tell you!!! Every year, it goes around the school and I worry so much that one of my children will get it.

So far, we've dodged it.

I think the combing is important from what I read.

Would a vinegar rinse help? Does anyone know? I hear the lice treatment/shampoos make the hair so tangled and dry.........I use vinegar on everything so I wondered if it would help.....

I hope they don't get it......

This sucks!!!

Skip the spray.

Vacuum everything (couch, carpet, etc - anything that can't be washed) really well. Wash linens and pillowcases - dry on hot. Stick the pillows in the dryer on hot. Any stuffed animals, etc, put in plastic bags for 2 weeks, or dry on hot if they can handle it (20minutes on high heat)

Skip the chemical stuff for hair too. Get a large thing of mayo - glob it on nice so that all the hair is coated, cover with plastic grocert bag and use a clothes pin or hair clip to keep it on/closed. Wait about 2 hours and wash it out. The mayo smothers the bugs. Then go through everyone's hair with a lice comb (flea comb will work too) Look for any eggs - they will be tiny since they would have been just laid.

Go through everyone's hair thoroughly, and then do re-checks every day/every other day.

Don't cha just feel like itching and jumping all over the place whenever you heat that word...LICE? We had a lice scare when ds was 4. When I used to work at the state hospital we had to check for lice on the new patients. We would bag their stuff and put it in a closet for 7 days to make sure any egg that would hatch would die for lack of O2 and food. Good luck---my heart goes out to you and my now itchy shoulders

Ok first off you don't have to bag nothing. Human lice can't live off the head for more then 24 hours. So you don't have to bag stuffed animals and what not.

You don't need to spray for the chemicals do more harm then good and as said above they won't live long off the human head.

No need for the shampoo for it will cause more harm to the head and don't work. You can take plan old mayo and put it in the hair and wraped the head in a plastic bag or show cap over night or during the day. Then the eggs will suffacate and you can just wash and comb the hair. Ditch the combs for lice and just use your fingers to get all the eggs out. The bugs will be dead anbd will fall off during wash.

The eggs will be brown if they are dead and white if they arn't. Then ever other day do the mayo at night for about a week or so for they come back if not all dead every 7 days. Wash all bedding and vacum and toss the bag. My dd got it back in October and had it for a month off and on for we used the sprays and shampoos. I called my docot and this is all what they said. I even did internet reading on it. So good luck, don't buy anything but Mayo and don't bag your house up
