Iodine paint test...anyone done this

Where you swab iodine tincture on your belly and if it wears off in 24 hours you need more iodine?

I been feeling funny again. so I decided with all this lovely thyroid info lately that I would do the paint test. the iodine was absorbed in 5 hours.

I have Kelp and stopped taking recently simply because I forgot and didn't worry aobut it.

But the iodine discussions made me realize that I rarely have salt, I dont eat fish or sea vegetables. I could be in trouble and maybe that explains why I gain weight and my body hurts (those creaks I was sharing about earlier)

What I have read is that you can neglect your thyroid for a year and still turn thngs around so I have hope. I dont have money for a doctor checkup right now. Poor dh has had some serious needs on the physician list for a couple years now. We are barely making ends meet. Dh is working 2 jobs at the present.

Also with all the excitement/drama with my kids and the neighbors little boy and all, I think I am literally drained adn need to love and nourish myself.
So today that is my goal. Hope you all will do the same. We need it. We work so hard carrying the burdens of our families and the world.....

Edited to add Guido Mase' site info that actually aligns with other things I am reading.
Treatment Goal(s):
· Normalize thyroid function, warm digestion and normalize reproductive / adrenal hormone function.

Primary Treatment:
· Seaweed supplementation helps normalize thyroid function. Administer up to 3 grams daily of kelp.
· Warming digestives such as Angelica archangelica, Zingiber officinale (Ginger), and Capsicum frutescens (Cayenne).
· Consider Vitex and/or Panax ginseng (Korean ginseng) if necessary for reproductive and adrenal function.

Supportive Treatment:
· At first especially, encourage a diet that is extremely easy to digest and highly nourishing, focused on meat and vegetable stocks, well-cooked brown rice, and nourishing root vegetables such as carrots and sweet potatoes.
· Slowly increase level of physical activity.

Differential diagnoses, cautions, and other considerations
· Severe hypothyroidism can be degenerative and also have a genetic component. If the patient does not improve considerably with the administration of the above protocol, consider a thyroid function test. A medical doctor may recommend Synthroid, a synthetic thyroxine analog, but this drug has the unfortunate side effect of completely atrophying the thyroid. A substitute could be a glandular supplement such as bovine thyroid extract.
· Depression may be profound and dangerous in some cases of hypothyroid. Be aware that, at least for a short period, professional help may be required to treat it.

Today I am making a butternut soup with plenty of ginger and garlic. Miso and tahini added soon to it.
I am drinking the broth now. Feel like I cannot tolerate much food in the gut. Like burning again.
the only thing I can say is the same as last time I had this is my friends pizzeria pizza. Maybe I cannot tolerate some sauce? Not sure. Mabye completely unrelated...lol Which I hope becuase they are my friends and I supprt their busienss. Chicago style pizza rocks!

I haven't done this iodine test, but want to thank you for the reminder. Dh and I both need to do this.

I don't know what is happening with your neighbor, but it is always good to recheck one's position and adjust as necessary. Take care of you, please? This is just a loving reminder and not a lecture.

I'm sorry to read of your continued financial burden. I well understand what that is like, the sometimes helpless and hopeless feeling that it will never end. It is situations and times like this, where a group of like-minded people would be SO appealing.

Ok do the armpit test. I think the iodine is questionable, but may help you know if you strongly need iodine. Lots of conflicting info.
The temp test is more accurate most people agree (outside testing TSH, T3and T4 with the doctor)

I think if it is under 97.4 consistantly then you may have thyroid issue.

Go to Mercola.com and type in thyroid and see what comes up. I think he has directions.
AS well as google. It is probably all over the net.

Okee, dokee! I've been temping this week anyway, finding that my thyroid is alive and active. My temps ran from the lowest at 97.6, to the highest at 98.7. It seems that there is at least SOME activity with my ovaries.

I'll get dh to temp in the morning, too. His daytime reading was 97.3 last week! I wouldn't at all be surprised to find it at least a couple of degrees lower first thing in the morning.

Thank you KR! As always, your a sweety!

yes this am my temp was really low at 95 something. so I tok oral..the same then I took my armpit again about 2 hours later and my temp was 96 something.
The iodine isn;t absorbing as rapidly. I did it about 4 times to be sure.
I am sure some evaporates.

I read soemthign Susun Weed heard that if you absorb the iodine within 1 hour your thyroid is really unhappy.
