Hot flashes and stress

It is so true. My stepmom is 46 and under a great deal of stress openingher shoppe. She is flashing like mad, even on cool days.

I have been too..the biggest flashes this week have been during sadness.

Sadness and stress could not be all that good for us I would suppose with
that experience. Just musing here but please chime in your opinion on the subject.

I've been taking care of my grandmother and inevitably, when I'm right in the middle of some new "crisis," I feel myself burning UP. Which doesn't really help matters any, huh? I do the sad thing too. If I allow myself to feel the sadness for even a few moments, I generally have to run stick my face in the freezer. Sometimes I just stand at the door of the freezer and cry.

stress totally effects my hot flashes - like the last thing we need when we are upset or angry is to be covered in sweat and panting (that stuff is supposed to be for the good times!). when my grandfather was dying, this summer, and i was helping change his diaper i always always found myself dripping sweat, so much that my glasses would be falling off.

hot flashes. its funny, when i was growing up and the older women would talk about them i could never understand why they were complaining. i mean, so you got hot for a second? who gave a ****? but really, until you actually experience them, you can't truly know what a PITA they are.

hugs to my fellow menopausal mamas

That's a good idea, KR. I think I've been startled to attention. I'll have to start practicing.

Not so well. I don't think I'm very good at it. Does self-medication count? Lately, I can make it through the days, but somewhere between 4 and 6 in the evening, it starts going downhill. Wonder how daylight savings time is going to affect that? I'm thinking I probably should NOT have discontinued my antidepressants. I'm completely off of them now, but I'm just hammering myself to sleep every night. And it's not really "sleep," so I wake up completely exhausted.

I'm being a big baby, I know.

When you say hammering do you mean drinking? or soemthing else....I know I had done some drinking and stuff after cancer to try and help me sleep and sometimes it helped and sometimes not.
I am doing motherwort mostly now with good results. But I dont always sleep all night.

How bout rose oil. Do you ahve anythign with real rose in it? It is such a good calmer, I often feel completely exhausted after workign with large amounts of it. I have slept like a babe for 2 nights straight making lotions with rose.

Not usually drinking, but sometimes. Other stuff. Etc. Like the other night ... My BED is not a restful place, so I sleep on the couch a lot. So I was on the couch and I had already taken my nighttime supplements and I was sooooo tiiiiiiired. But my TMJ was bothering me, so after awhile, I got up and took some Tylenol PM. But after another long while, my mind wouldn't turn off, so I had a Klonopin. Finally, I went to sleep for a few hours. The time change hasn't had the effect I had hoped.

I'll try the roses thing. As for other supplements ... I've been reading labels on all the stuff at the store and what I see the most are black cohosh and evening primrose oil. What's the deal with black cohosh?

We were at the new SuperTarget the other day and a hot flash hit me so hard that it made me nauseous and I just sat down in the middle of the floor rather than risk throwing up all over the floor. Things were pretty well-controlled for awhile, but I seem to be going through another change.

The black cohosh supposedly helps to increase the estrogen levels, which in turn will help to alleviate the hot flashes. Natural estrogen is always going to be better than synthetic or other mammal estrogen, which makes the black cohosh more appealing.

Oh Mary. Crap! That is a bad hot flash...
I was jsut going to rreply but Cl got it pretty good. It works as a sort of estrogen and soem women have GREAT success with it and others not anything. I dont do much but red clover tincture and motherwort. I am not opposed to black cohosh, but have not used it much. (I used it to begin labor in 2 births so I think I have a mental thing aobut it being a birth herb more than any other use)

I also am not opposed to HRT if a woman feels she needs it, but I am trying to not go that route jsut yet.

The Yoni balm I make is helping my vaginal tissues thus far. No pain when I use that but some pain when I use astroglide and such...interesting but true.

hot flashes tho...black cohosh is praised for this. And eating estogenic foods like yams. There are other foods but right now I can't remember

Another wonderful symptom of menoopause

the only thing that gets me to sleep is unisom (and not the gel caps with diphenhydramine but the oldstyle tablets with doxylamine succinate Unisom® SleepTabs® Tablets ). i have to take 2 every night with my 5htp and testosterone cream and then i can go to sleep within an hour. i have been taking them for almost a year now and haven't had to increase the doseage or anything. i tried everything else and it's the only thing that will let me go to sleep, and stay asleep and doesn't have me wake up feeling zombified all day long.
