Any books that you recommend on the issue of menopause?
I have been referencing Womens Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine by Tori Hudson ND.
Good info for women from cervical dysplasia-osteoporosis-menopause-heart disease-breast cancer, etc... and if you are the natural mama type that eats this type of info up, it is a good reference.
I need to read Susun Weeds menopause book as well.
I used to moderate at her forums before all this so I got a good idea of her approach.
I like Dr. John Lee's books, "What Your Doctor May NOT Tell You About Menopause" & "What Your Doctor May NOT Tell You About PreMenopause".
He has another book out titled, "Hormone Balance For Men" that I want to get for my dh. I know that this forum is for women in their next phase of womanhood, but a little light being shed upon how to contend with our husbands' imbalance issues can't hurt.
Christine Northrup has a wonderful book out titled, "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom". I LOVE it! Her section on menopause is straightforward and her suggestions are to do as little as possible first, before resorting to extreme measures.

The Wisdom of Menopause was what my midwife recommended. I kinda had to make some substitutions, though, because ... natural menopause is a little different than waking up from surgery in menopause. Just imo.

O yeah....I agree that surgical is so radical for women. Some of the ole timer women actually went through those surgeries without any HRT help. Many say they did just fine, but I bet they just don't realize how hard they were to be around

While I've been taking care of my grandmother these last several months, I learned that she had a complete hysterectomy when she was 28 years old and NEVER took hormones! That sure explains a helluva lot. "Hard to be around" is really too polite to describe how she was (and has been ever since I've known her.) And then how's THIS for a kick in the pants -- When she developed breast cancer at the age of 81, they called it "spontaneous age-related cancer" and testing revealed it to be "estrogen fed." So now she has to take Arimidex to REDUCE her estrogen levels. What a BUMMER.
Right now, I'm cleaning out my bookshelves to take to the used book store and I've been lost for the last few hours reading through my goddess culture books. Very cool. THOSE books are staying!

You know what I don't get about breast cancer. Many forms are estrogen fed, yet it is old ladies without estrogen that get the cases in the majority.
I would venture to say that it is the type of estrogen and it's origin that could be making the difference. Sally Fallon speaks of properly processing/fermenting soy for consumption, which is why I am thinking along this vein. It could very well be that the human body doesn't assimilate the available estrogen in soy, as well as other possible sources, due to not having what it takes in our gut to digest it correctly. ???
