We finally got the movie on DVD and it's great! Though my ds and I are scaredy cats and jumped a lot! LOL Overall there's lots of comedy for kids and adults alike. NOT for everyone, though!
I loved this! Saw a screening of it where the director gave us a presentation on how it was made, and that was fascinating. I was pregnant when I saw it, so I can't really speak to what it's like for kids, but my husband and I both thought it was funny and clever and beautifully done.
I'll admit that the reason I went to see it was because my 1st choice at the theater was sold out - HOWEVER I was quite impressed with it & would definately recommend it

she is a bit frieghtened of certain parts, but okay if we are in the room with her. Dh and I love it! I mentioned to him she may be just a bit too young to see it. She doesn't ever pick itout to watch since the first week we got it. ?????? Who knows, she may love it next month, she is a toddler! LOL!

I have been blessed with the job of being a mom to Kaylene (7 yrs), Kassidy (4 yrs), Cody (3 yrs), and Clay (born Jan '07). They are my greatest achievement and am honored to have them! I love, love, love my hubby, Cody, and I am so thankful that he is as supportive and helpful as he is.
I posted about this movie back when this forum was created but it seems to be gone. My nephew was 3 when it came out last year and "loved" the movie. He was into acting out the characters and everything. However! He stopped sleeping in his room and would only sleep on the floor of his baby sister's room because he was afraid of *monsters* in his room. Someone said there was a scene that might make him think there were monsters in his closet. I attribute his sudden fear to the movie.
Fast forward, it's been released on video and my mom showed it to my kids. My 5 1/2 year old seems okay with it but my 3 1/2 year old is now talking about being afraid of *monsters*. This was *never* part of his vocabulary even though we have books that mention monsters scattered throughout the kids "library". He's literally to the point of running screaming down the hallway if he thinks he sees a monster. It's been real objects each time like his brother walking from his room in a darkened hallway. Not only did she show the boys that movie but she sent it home with them the weekend I was out of town. Argh, I didn't have any clue that she had the movie (she got it because of my nephew "loving" the movie--BTW he's finally back in his own room in his own bed but they had to rearrange the furniture to get him to go back in there). Then we're on vacation last week and someone pulls that movie out to show the kids. Argh. LOL. Okay, so maybe I'm one of the only ones with sensitive kids. LOL. I know what's good for my own kids, yk? It's definitely a movie I would hesitate showing to anyone under 5 because who needs kids with new fears. That's MNSHO.

Karen, we had the same problem-we took DD when she was 31 months to see it and she did great, loved it. A few days later she refused to stay in her room alone ever, wanted all the lights on and wouldn't even open her closet door. We finally borrowed a Sully doll from a friend and had to make a big show of locking it outside the front door each night for several weeks. It'll be a long time before I show movies like that to DD again.

We didn't have near as much of a problem with the actual movie than with the preview! Have you guys seen that? I think it was before Toy Story 2... it starts out with a view of a kids room centering slowly ont he closet, and goes on to say (in a dark voice)
"Every child knows that after bedtime stories, after their parents kiss them goodnight, and the light goes out, (voise gets REALLY low and sinister but loud and the light goes out) There are MONSTERS in their closets... " (At this point, in the theater, I yelled "Aw! COME ON!!!) And then it gets a little lighter, and the guys says "but what the children don't know is that it is just part of their job." Than Sully and Mike come out and it is comical after that. But h*ll, the damage has been done! My son was only 4 when we went to Toy Story 2 in theater and he was scared for DAYS! I was so mad that I called the theater and complained, but there was nothing they could do. Short of cutting the $10,000 movie reel. So there is that.
My child had NO CLUE about any of that supersticious stuff. The actual movie didn't bug him, but he saw it on video at age 6! This preview is on the video tape of Toy Story 2 as well... Just something to watch out for if you have a sensitive kid.

Just have to add that this is my favoriate Disney movie of all time! I love it... I think that they should have thought of a better way to introduce the characters instead of them being scary right off the bat you know? Cyan my 17 month dd IS boo, right down to the sticky out pig tails... and she loves the movie... but I am guessing she has no clue yet as to what they mean, and she is still in our room anyway. Great movie... but for kids 4 and over I would say... and that preview would have freaked me out at 10!

But wanted to say my 2.5 year old was obsessed with this movie!! Blues Clues was old news! LOL My child went from NO TV interst to fanatical about Blues Clues and Monsters Inc He went to sleep asking to watch "sink" and we had to promise to let him watch in the morning, he even has a Mikey doll that we bought from another amity mama before the movie came out.
I love the little skit at the begining, "For the Birds" I laugh so hard each time I see that! It is sooooo cute! He loves it too.. give me great big belly laughs!
I really liked the movie, though agree they could have left one of the scenes out, but we had no problems from watching the movie.

My son is also obsessed with this movie. He's 22 months and has been fascinated since he was 20 months or so. I think he's much too young for it (I only show him Sesame Street) but he saw it once (my dh brought the video home) and he could not get enough of it! We have a no monsters until after your afternoon nap rule. Plus I only let him watch 20 mins or so a day.
For us there's no fear issues -- I think he's a little young for fear issues anyway. He's very empowered by it. He's convinced from watching it that monsters are terrified of socks and the word "boo." He constantly pretends that there are monsters and then he throws imaginary socks at them and says "boo." He seems to feel very empowered by these little skits he does. He also likes to pretend he's a monster and roar a lot. But he still claims that monsters are nice and "gentle" and only the bad monster "Randall" is scary -- but that's because he looks like a "snake." The Sesame Street monsters round out the category for him.
He loves that the little girl is, well, little. He just seems to relate to the whole movie and get such a kick out of it. At first I worried it would create fear and didn't know what to say to him when he insisted there were monsters under my bed or his crib -- I'd deny it, but he kept insisting so I said "are there??" and he'd say "yes!" and then throw socks and say "boo" and laugh. So I let it go.
Anyway, that was our experience.
