This movie is a feast for the eyes. The town, the house where Sally and Conrad live, and even the kids and their mom are exactly what one pictures when reading the Dr. Suess book.

That's about as much good as I can say about this movie.

It keeps to the plot loosely but elaborates needlessly. It is filled with sleazy jokes and adult humor and actual meaness. Almost sinister. I was surprised by that.

Mike Myers does a good job but seems to recycle every voice he has ever done all in the same hour. And I love him, he's Canadian, eh? I didn't love him in this.

It really is a movie for grownup Suess fans who have sick senses of humors. I hate to say it. My kids (ages 2.5 and 4) sat still and watched but it went waaayyy over their heads. I thought it would be simpler, basic, much like the book. No way. This is raunchy and a little violent too-they hang the babysitter on a hook in the closet, fling her all over and even ride her down a waterslide. My preschooler was upset by that later in the day.

My kids have been to see all kinds of movies, adult ones too and this just was not fun for them. I like a good laugh and sick jokes more than most people but this movie needed to be marketed to grownups, not little kids.

All in all, a must miss, I'm afraid.

I thought it might be... they did that with the Grinch. I hated that movie... for all of the reasons you listed above. I was afraid that this would be the same so I told my kids they could not see it. Sorry to hear it was true... but thanks for letting us all know.

Another thumbs down for 2 16 yos (my sister and her friend). The saw it last night and were really dissapointed.

Upshot is that the cat is scary and mean.

The adults at the impromtu party last night insisted on reading the book (I had it on hand) and agreed that he was mean/not very nice but he didn't look scary in the book. It was one of those "shocker" kind of moments for parents of adults. They couldn't believe that they hadn't noticed how mean that cat was when they were reading it to their kids.
