I cannot believe we have school today. It's minus 27 with the windchill, the snow is piling up and wind is blowing everywhere. We are in Chilliwack! They usually cancel for a few centimetres when the sun is shining. WTH? Just had to vent. I didn't want the kids to walk (they wanted to) because cars are sliding all over the place and I don't want them getting squashed, but driving was a nightmare. It's crazy. Anyway, had to whine to someone.

Ottawa has so many beautiful spots and small towns. I love living here, it has the big city feeling without all the polution and congestion that towns like TO have.
I really love the fact that in 20 minutes I can be in the woods admiring nature and showing my kids all the different animal tracks, then go home to the grind all relaxed and happy.

I'm in Ontario, but was out to Nova Scotia from Nov 12th till Nov 20th. I met "Theodore Tugboat". He is much bigger in real life !
I also went to the Canadian Idol final 3 concert in Halifax. It was at the University. We sat in the 3rd row & I was in the centre aisle, so only 20 feet or so from the stage. Theo was great, Mitch is from Halifax, so was popular. He closes his eyes when he sings! Drew is my personal favourite & is from a city where my parents lived at one time.
We went to the "Shoe Emporium" after the concert for a decadent dessert & something to drink & for a chat. Next thing we know Drew is at the bar !!
I got his autograph on my concert ticket & then we chatted for a few minutes. He's a really nice fellow and even knows where the wee little village I live in Ontario is!! I had to ask him how in the world he knew & he answered.
I also went to a LLL meeting while there and did some shopping & touristing. Went to Fisherman's Cove. We also ended up being sidewalk pedestrians for a Tom Selleck show that goes to Halifax for a couple of weeks every year. It was weird as we were walking along, my friend pushing her baby in the stroller. We saw a fellow was pulled over with US license plates & thought that was odd for this time of year. Also the Police were being extremely cautious regarding the driver & very seriously looking through the windows at the contents in the car. The driver (not Tom Selleck!) was holding his hands in an odd way & not getting out of the car. I was walking by the car (could have reached over & touched it actually) and looked up at the police officer and noticed his jacket said, "Boston Police". Hmmmm, the car was a Boston Police car. Then I remembered that my "host" family had mentioned Tom Selleck was there for a couple of weeks shooting his show & wouldn't it be funny if we met him. Well we didn't meet him but as I looked up beyond the Boston Police car I saw the camera and the director and camera man and a couple of other people behind them. After we went past them we looked at eachother and said, "that was weird" and discussed all our thoughts as we were walking by that car. I did for a moment think, "I hope he doesn't have a gun, but when looking in the car I didn't see one in either of his hands or on holstered on him anywhere.
I also went to a Saturday market and a Christmas craft show.
It was raining & foggy most of the time, so the views weren't as interesting as they could have been.
It was my first time in a large plane. I've been in small planes (like the farmers who owned & flew their small plane & the take-off and landing strip was between the soya bean field & the corn field!!). One of my boyfriends was a pilot so I went up in small planes with him from a small town airport. I made sure I was at the large airport at least 2 hours early and things were all fine. Lots of interesting people met on the train (I took the train to up to Ottawa). A woman was taking her adopted dd with Down Syndrome up to CHEO as she needed a consult. The dd had broken her neck the year before diving into a pool. Toronto Sick Kids said they didn't want to touch her as CHEO had more expertise. Poor thing had complaine of a head-ache & was brushed off by TO & the CHEO discovered one of the pieces of metal from her spinal surgery had broken off & was jabbing up in her skull. TO didn't believe she was telling the truth about the pain. She has another adopted ds with Down as well. Then her identical twin sons (biological) chose to become Dr.'s partly based upon their life experiences with their adopted siblings. One is a pead. for special needs kids & both chose to be Dr. in an underserviced area in northern Ontario. Had a nice chat with a young lady heading back to University as well as a gentleman with a 3 year old girl & he had a stroke for an unknown reason, just last year in his early 30's. I stayed with friends in Ottawa for the night...Thanks Stace!!! Then headed out from there. I came home into Toronto & stayed the night alone...novel! Met up with most of the family the next day to go to the Royal Winter fair in TO & to watch the Canadian Olympic Team compete in a jumping competition on the Saturday. Headed home Sunday afternoon & am now trying to get back into the swing of things!!

It's too bad we never met. I live in Halifax and when Theodore Tugboat originally came to be my Il's were a big part of it travelling all over the US with it. The Farmers Market is quite neat also...
