I do at least 2 loads a day plus more when we do sheets/towels etc. however - we have our washer dryer in our upstairs hall in a closet off of a narrow hallway. So we have no room for folding and sorting. So we have one laundry basket/hamper in each room and I go through them all and pull out the stuff for the each load that I do (which is gross). I just don't have anywhere to put a color sorting load. I usually end up folding them out of the dryer myself or putting out a clean towel or sheet and folding sorting on the floor. Tried the table or the couch but that meant hauling it downstairs and then back upstairs.

My kids are in Navy/white uniforms for school so it's usually a white and darks load every day. Weekends usually colors, reds/pinks, towels and sheets. Though sometimes some of that stuff needs to be done in between times.

This is what we do, and what is working for now.

Austin (13) does his own laundry on Wednesday.

Nathan (12) and Adam (9) do theirs together (they share a room, so their dirty clothes are together in one hamper) on Thursday.

Lauren (8 ) does hers on Friday.

The boys can all run the washer and dryer, and know how much detergent to put in. Lauren needs help from one of her brothers.

Each child folds and puts away his/her own laundry the same day.

I toss in a load of Chally's clothing sometime during the week - as I see it needs done.

Sunday morning Shawn and I toss our basket of clothing into the washer. It gets put away that day (usually).

Sheets are done on Saturdays, but not often enough. sigh.

We have a literal "family closet" -- I got the idea from here Laundry Help: The Family Closet | Raising Olives

The washer and dryer is also in there. Dh put shelves up and his/my clothing is either hung or folded and put on the shelves. Socks and undies are either in rolling bins (me) or crate (dh) Lexie's clothes are in a stacker and hung (this also helps dh dress her since I put all outfits together on hangers). Emalee's clothes are on a shelf and bins in there too. My older kids choose to do their own laundry and keep their clothing in their rooms.

Dh and I no longer have dressers in our bedroom...saves a TON of space and is soooo much easier! I love the family closet!

Each of my girls have their own laundry basket. On monday they are to bring it downstairs to the laundry (Sarah usually helps Taylor). I wash a couple loads a day, but I wash each of the girls separately from the others. I put it back into their basket and put it at the bottom of the steps for them to take it up and put it away.

The family closet looks cool. If we ever finish our basement I will consider that. It is unfinished and needs some serious work to be pleasant though. I don't fold clothes near the washer- I bring them up to the d/r table or a bed.
