We are having a dolly tea party next weekend for Marlie's birthday. I have a few ideas, but I could use some more. Everyone is bringing a doll or a stuffed animal. I'm serving "tea" on china in the dining room. We are going to paint nails and do make-up.
I want to do a few crafts that are for their dolls or that they can play with, with their dolls. They are going to make necklaces for themselves and the dolls. I found tiny little wooden boxes at the craft store for them to paint and decorate.
I always think of big hats when I think tea party How about getting some of the straw hats from the craft store (or the dollar store should have Easter hats in the next week or so.) Get some tulle, some ribbons, and some silk flowers and have them decorate their hats. If you get the little straw ones from the craft store you could do matchy ones for the dollies. Alternately, you could get the little foam visors they sell and the foam shapes and have them just peel and stick to decorate.
Maybe do decorated hankies? Just hem squares of muslin and they can add lace bits, ribbon flowers, or just decorate with markers.
Alternately, make sets of two of these and they are fancy napkins for the girl and her doll to have for tea parties at home. Do large rectangles backed in interfacing to match and they have coordinating placemats and napkins for their home tea party.
Oh I love the felt cookies idea!! This may sound like a super lame question but I have no clue about felt. Is felt the stuff you buy in squares at the craft store?

Yes, it is. I buy wool felt, which comes on the bolt (you can also get larger pieces of acrylic felt on the bolt,) but the wool is a lot more expensive then the acrylic squares you can get at any craft store. Both work just fine for projects like the cookies.

Crafts:
1) Necklaces
Necklaces are easy to make. Use heavy string as a base to hold various beads. Basic pony beads work well. Fancier accent beads, such as pearl beads, wooden beads or shaped ceramic beads, can be used sparingly for decoration. Consider giving each girl a specified allotment of accent beads to reduce contention and arguments at the party.
2) Paper Fans
# An Oriental-style paper fan can add a touch of elegance to any tea party. Use six Popsicle-style craft sticks to create the fan shape. Glue the sticks together on one end and allow the other ends to spread outward.
Allow the little girls to select from a variety of wrapping paper samples. Each sample should be at least a square foot of wrapping paper. The girls will fold the wrapping paper in half with the design facing inside. Trace the outline of the popsicle stick fan onto the design and cut it accordingly. Be sure that at least an inch of the craft sticks will show at the bottom. Without unfolding the wrapping paper, cut out the outline. When the design is cut, use glue to adhere it to the craft sticks with the design-side facing outward.
3) Tissue Flowers
Flowers can be made from multi-colored tissue paper and green pipe cleaners. They can be used to decorate hats, placed in small, painted flower pots, or simply held.
Start by cutting the tissue paper into circles. Each flower will require four to six circles of tissue paper. Make a small circle or ball with one end of the pipe cleaner. Thread the straight end through a hole in the center of the tissue circle. This creates the stem. Fold or crumble the tissue paper to make it look more flowery.
4) Picture Frame
Take pictures of each girl throughout the tea party. At the end of the activity, have each girl create a custom frame for her picture. Use eight craft sticks to create a square frame. Glue the sticks together on the corners, where the sticks overlap.
Allow the children to decorate the frame with buttons, ribbon, glitter, stickers, and any other craft supplies that are available.
Glue the picture to a piece of cardboard for reinforcement. Then, glue the edges of the picture to the front of the frame. When this dries, the project is ready for the girls to take home.
My ideas:
I'd make "tea cupcakes" and let the kids decorate them! I've been wanting to do this! You bake the cupcake in a tea cup. You would need china cups that weren't from your china collection though. Like Goodwill finds. Have them icing the cupcakes then offer toppings such as sprinkles & small candies.
Or~ have them decorate cookies! Bake the cookies ahead of time. Bigger work better and cute shapes are an extra!
Marshmallow treat pops would work too. Google and there are lots of pics. They're easy and fun.
Sugar cube games: Put out small bowls of sugar cubes, set a timer & the person who stacks the most sugar cubes (like a tower) before the timer dings wins.
Pass the sugar cube: Put a sugar cube on a spoon, set a timer and pass it around the table. Object is to keep the cube on the spoon.
Not a craft but I'm wanting to have a party with a candy buffet. You fill glass jars with different candies, use cute tags as labels tied with ribbons and put out paper boxes for the kids to fill. Good to use as a favor and keeps them a bit busy.

It's not as fancy as the other ideas, but I always have the kids decorate their own cupcake with cute stuff? It takes a little time and it's something you'd have to do anyway (cake.)
