Just wondering, how do you deal with the Halloween candy ......
We let the kids usually eat candy only on saturdays. Most times they forget it is saturday and then they have to wait til the next week anyway.
After Halloween, I have established the rule that they can eat candy every day for two weeks....after that, it all goes Bye bye! (it goes to my DHs work, the guys there seem to inhale candy and sweets)
Does anyone else do that or similar?

i let them gorge themselves for that weekend...that's it.
this morning, what was left hit the trash once they left for school.
I let Zia pick a few that she likes, and the rest goes to my husbands job on Monday. (she gets to eat a bit on Halloween weekend too)

They gorged on Sat and Sun. Sunday night we do the candy fairy. They pick out 14 pieces (2 a day for 7 days) to keep and leave the rest out on the table. The candy fairy comes, takes the candy and leaves them a toy. DS9 got the MJ This is it CD and DS5 got a train.
Mine also gorged over the weekend. I have let them take 2 pieces in lunches this week. Terrible I am sure.
It will sit in bags until they get bored with it, probably thru this coming weekend.
Then it gets dumped!

My kids barely come home with a 1/2 pumpkin bucket full of candy each so it is really easy here. They eat all they want for a day or two and then it is all gone but if they did get a lot like they use to when they were little I allowed a small piece a day for a week or two and then the candy would poof, disappear.

The boys brought home about 9lbs of candy between them and McKenna's pumpkin was filled to the brim (literally). We let them eat pretty much whatever they wanted on Sat & Sun, but then it's limited to a few pieces for dessert each night for a few weeks. I'm sure dh will take a good amount to work as well and eventually we'll just dump what's left.

I do that too. I eliminate all gummi candy and anything that has Gelatin in it and suckers, they don't need them.
Well, Halloween night they traded about 5 times... between themselves and their friends.
Sunday I told them that I would give them 3 options:
1) keep all of their candy to themselves
2) keep 25 pieces, give me the rest (they each ad over 200 pieces) and I would give them $5
3) keep none, and I would give them $10.
All 3 boys took the $10. They each really wanted a Toon Town unlimited access card ($10/month) so we went and got those for them. Lauren chose to keep 25 pieces, and I gave her a $5 bill.
I am going to the dentist today and plan on asking if they buy back the candy. if they do, I will do that. If not, I'll be dropping off the candy at Shawn's unit for the soldiers.

Hmmm, there is an idea! I have to talk to Dh about it. I just bought some Lego for DS that I could part with and I am sure I can find something for DD.
I let them have a piece or 2 here and there as long as it doesn't ruin a meal. We had to throw out candy from last year before they went out this year. They don't overeat it knowing they can have it. If I would tell them they couldn't have it, then they would probably make themselves sick on it. It works for us.

So, i made the kids a suggestion: Keep a small snack bag of candies and get a small toy and give up the rest of the candy
OR keep a big ziplock bag of candy and eat for two weeks straight
OR give up all the candy and get a bigger toy
They both picked 9 pcs of candy for a small ziplock baggy and will receive a small toy.
The 9 pcs is nothing to what they received. Each did get (I just weighed it) 4 lbs of candy)
Mine don't over eat candy eventho they usually only get to eat candy on saturday. They forget it a lot, because we stay pretty busy during the daytime and one rule is: no Candy at the work desk (where we spend most of our day anyway).
