We let them pig out that first night. After that, it's a piece a day. They usually get sick of it before it's gone, and dh takes the rest to work with him where it gets devoured in about an hour.

we pig out that night, the kids get to pick 10 pieces each to keep and eat as they want - then Eric and I figure out what we want, and when we get sick of it (or when I bag what we wont' eat), I drop it off at our foodbank.
Free range until it's gone here too. They went door to door for it, so it's theirs. I don't see why I should allow them to go trick or treating, and then tell them they can't keep what they worked so hard to get. If the plan is to dump most of what was gotten, it would make sense to only allow trick or treating at a few houses so there is no waste.
Honestly, I don't have the energy to make arbitrary rules about stuff that isn't life threatening like Halloween candy. DD has free reign to do as she pleases with the candy, which apparently was to eat all the mini chip bags & then leave the rest sitting in the kitchen to tempt *me*!

This is how I feel. I cringe when I hear of people just totally dumping it all in the garbage. Halloween candy isn't cheap and it just annoys me to think of all the money wasted on candy for those who just dump it anyway.
My kids eat until it's gone these days. Of course Hannah came down with H1N1 right after ToT and Jonas last night so they haven't been allowed to have much candy.

We went to different parties and events and they got a total of 12 lbs (about 1.5 of that was leftover from us giving out candy) in Candy...No way I let them gorge on 12 lbs of candy, some yes, but not 12 lbs.
They both received a webkinz for sending their candy to Iraq (&they kept a small amount in a ziplock baggy)
We didn't get a lot, we went to maybe 10-15 houses? Anyway, I let them have a few pieces at snack times of after lunch for a few days. I think ours will be gone by the weekened.

I let the kids eat whatever they want. Gorge themselves. They eventually get tired of it. They eat the good stuff first, and get to where there isn't anything left they really want, and are tired of sweets anyhow.
The leftovers at this point can go to a local nursing home.
I let the kids eat it for a few days with limitations. The rest is put away for Easter baskets and donatied to a charity called party in a bosx for underprivledged children.
Can anyone tell me how I would mail candy to the troops overseas? I don't know anyone but we literally have a huge cauldron full and I love this idea. Thanks
