I love Charlotte, but I understand the hesitation because of where you live. I'm not sure Harper is super trendy yet, and I like the family name connection. I really like it, too.

It's funny you put that last one there, my Mom's name is Roseanna. Girl names are hard for me...I barely came up with my daughter's name, Rayne. I hope you get some good suggestions.

I love Charlotte. BUT if you're turned off by trendy names, you might want to think hard about it. Maybe it's just one of those things I'm sensitized to because a friend just named her baby that, but I'm seeing lots of Charlottes. I have a feeling you might find yourself surrounded by them in the near future should you go with that name. (The fact that you live near Charlotte wouldn't bother me; if either of my younger daughters had been boys they'd have been named for one of the local Air Force bases.)
I like Harper. Given your nicknames, how about something like Rosanna? My Esther's second name is Rosemary, and I am happier with that name as time goes on. No one her age is named that.
Now we're thinking Harper Francis. If we name her Harper, then that is for my grandmother so we can use Francis for dh's grandmother for her middle name.
What do you think?

I love Harper. I have not heard it for a girl at all. Only one I ever heard of is the author Harper Lee, who wrote To Kill a Mockingbird, which is of course a classic book, and a nod to the southern region in which you live. I think it is strong and fab for a girl. Just be prepared for folks who see it on paper first to not know her gender. It is a gender neutral choice, which I am sure you know.

Yeah, besides being for my grandmother (close to her maiden name), we love Harper Lee as well!
Jena, I think we do have similar taste! I really like the nickname Lottie, but dh doesn't. I also like Trixie but I think that's what made dh veto Beatrix- said it sounded like a hooker. Love Margaret (Maggie), but we have one in the family. Love Clara but it's too close to our last name. Love Eleanor (Nora) but I think Nora is too close to Noah and there is already a newborn Nora in our neighborhood.
I love Harper Francis! (but feel compelled to tell you that the girl version is generally spelled with an "e" as Frances. This is my father and aunts name so I always got confused. My father explained it as hIm can only be spelled with an I and hEr with an E. That's how I always remember it. Mind you, if that's how your relative spells it, though, no problem. Just wanted to post it in case. )
I really like Harper
But I also really like Charlotte with a nickname of Charlie.
Good Luck we are ahving a hard time with BOY names!
