I cannot wear most earth tones. Most shades of yellow look sickly on me. And I can really only pull of yellow at all if I have a tan....and then only specific shades.
Same with oranges. I can only pull of certain shades when I have a tan. Otherwise I look ill.
.
Oh, this is me. Not to say I don't have some browns, because sometimes I really like earth tones. But I definitely get more comments about "you look tired today" when I wear them. I'm OK with that--I don't have to look stunning every day.
I've been told I'm a neutral. That doesn't mean I can wear any color though. Pale colors, whether cool or warm wash me out. I can wear black. I can wear jewel tones. I can wear a lot of earth tones too. On the color chart on that link, I can wear the bottom three rows of colors, on either side, cool/warm. The mid-depth values I can wear fewer, and the pastels fewer still, but again the ones I can wear are on both sides.
My best is purple. Or maybe I just love a deep purple, so I pretend it's my best.
OK, I also look good in pink, and in black. And in pink and black. And in gray, especially heather gray.
I look OK in a royal blue, but it's not my best.
But seriously, I have blue veins, look better in silver, and have green eyes with blonde hair. Definite cool.
Oh, and I just looked at the one Tracey posted--duh, there are greens in the cool, too. So it's not notable that I look good in some greens, but not others.

Sorry, herc - I misspoke about the blue-red. I meant that I was looking for a blue-red lipstick. I realize now that they have a whole category of colorations. But, I do see the golden undertones in your skin in some pictures I've seen. I just went to Clinique to find the right foundation last week and the goldens were HORRID against my jawline. They said it seems counter-intuitive because of the rosacea, but that I actually had a rosy/pink undertone and therefore needed to use a foundation with that base as well. I was a challenging subject, to say the least. But, they finally found a good blend that worked in conjunction with a yellow-toned powder and a green moisturizer.
I did read that something like 15% of the population is a cool - that it's not very common. Another link showed Jennifer Aniston as a cool again and I just think it's wrong - she's greek and has olive skin, sandy hair, and green eyes. But, I also saw Reese Witherspoon, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Those make sense to me.
I am definitely a cool - Heather (heythere) I see you in that coloration, too, for sure. Your plum-y color in your sig is a perfect compliment to your tone, which fits.
Dannielle - yep - blue is one of my best colors. (And pink, black, white, grey). I just need to learn to wear more of what I look good in because, I think, ultimately I will *feel* better in those things.
And, yes - I looked at the link and I agree - I think I must be a summer/cool.
I'm not ACTUALLY Ashley, but, frankly, probably a close enough approximation.
Ashley, can I guess for you: you are a "warm," are you not?

"Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
Jesus said until him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And, the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments have all the law and the prophets."

I thought this described Ashley:
Quote:
If you have cool skin tones:
The veins in your arms look blue and your face looks best next to a blue scarf like Cameron Diaz.
If this is you and your natural hair color is one of these:
Bluish black
Dark brown
Medium ash blonde Golden blonde
And
Your natural skin color (no makeup or tan) is one of these:
Pale (pink undertones or no cheek color) Medium (with pink, golden, or no cheek color)
Very dark brown (some African Americans or Latinas)
Olive (some Asians and Latinas)
And
Your eye color is one of these:
Very dark brown Dark blue or grey blue
Hazel (with white grey or blue specks)
that almost describes me sandi, except i am pale with no cheek color. I have very blue grey eyes and I look fantastic in blues, esp blue greens. I cant really wear like straight blue. I get complements on the color I am wearing today constantly, because it is similar to my eyecolor. If you read in your link, it also said sometimes people are a mix with warm eyes and cool skin or vice versa.

oh btw, the appearance of my skin changes with my hair color It depends if I dye with a red or auburn undertone if I feel frisky later I will scan in a pic of me with very red hair and wearing blue red undertoned lips and eyes and I bet you would think I have cool undertones.
I think my mixed race heritage screws me over for these. If I get any sun I tan and can get really dark, I haven't been able to do that for years now though. So that tan-ness is mostly replaced by paleness. I also have some of my mother's olive skin tones to go with that.
I was colorprinted when I was 16 and was told I was a "winter" but that site just said I am an autumn. I have no clue. I think based on silver looking more stunning against my skin, my so dark-brown it's almost black hair and eyes that vary between almost-black & gold . . I'm a mutant. I can't wear peachy colors, I look like I'm dying. Not that I would ever have abused that as a kid. Nope. I would never ever use a sweater I hated to get out of school because it would make my mother think I must be seriously ill. Nope.

Yeah that's what I was trying to tell Tracey earlier, too - that there are people who are neutral but pull to one side, too. A whole mixed bag. Always exceptions
