Nancy, I just have to say that I was surprised to see you on Obama's side, lol. My image of you would have been very McCain, lol Just a side observation milling around in my tired head. Carry on, lol.

No, that is not what I am asking you. You didn't say that you heard people saying that they were voting for Obama just because he is black. You said you heard people talking about being excited that a black man was going to be President. Those are two very very different things.
I would never vote for somebody based on the color of their skin, nor would I support anyone else doing so.
It's the NOT voting for somebody because of the color of their skin that really bothers me though.
Reread my posts. I've said about 3 times in the last 10 minutes or so that I know people voting for him because of race. I'm not sure why this is such a long drawn out point to be honest. lol! The fact is that many people on both sides voted because of race and that's dumb. Period. Not much to debate there.

As for those people IRL that you know that voted for him because he was black, maybe you can look at it from their perspective. Besides his qualifications and beliefs, he has made history. For my SO, this is huge, for his children, and our child this is huge. All of the racism he has endured, the segregation, the insults, the physical harm he has endured over the last 50 years, this is a big deal mama. Having a black president is something that was thought to never even be possible. There were children that were told that they could be anything they wanted to be, but in all reality, that wasn't feasible because of race. Those walls have been broken down. Finally.

I live in suburban Maryland so I haven't heard the opposite even once. Just junk like "Obama's gonna be the head N in charge!" and "It's about time the White House became the black house." Crap like that.
This is the post of yours that I was replying to. To me, those statements do not mean that they voted for Obama soley because of his race.

I never thought I would actually see a black president and I'm only 39!
I am so proud of our country right now!

I have a biracial niece. I understand that this is a big deal. However, I'm not going to continue repeating myself.
My guess is that if one is AA, they feel a certain kinship with an AA candidate. Who better to understand their struggles than someone who has experienced them firsthand?
Basically the same as hockey moms and Joe Sixpacks rallying behind Palin. When you have the common bond of a shared experience with a candidate you feel that your interests are their interests.

Not to be rude or start anything... but do you also believe all "reality shows" are real? I'm not saying he is or isn't. I'm not saying they are or aren't... Just wondering.... for the sake of discussion.
believe what you want to believe. Don't what you don't. Devalue that which I believe. Doesn't matter to me. I'm high with pride and excitement and enthusiasm. I have NEVER been so impressed/enthused/proud of any president I've ever had in my adult life.
Anyone could say what they want. Anyone can try to take away the joy I feel right now by suggesting that I've been deluded or had the wool pulled over my eyes. That's your (as in "one") belief and it does nothing to take away my joy.
I"m staying in joy and I"m not debating (which is not an indication that I could not stand up for my beliefs - I certain can do so ).
Peace mamas. This is a great day. We will be a better country for having this man as our president. Nothing can take that away from me now.

"Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
Jesus said until him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And, the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments have all the law and the prophets."
I'm not sure, why I pictured you a McCain supporter. You know how you hear people's voices in your head or picture what they look like when you've never heard or seen them in real life. And then you meet them and you're like "whoa, you sound/look totally different than I imagined". Yeah, that's what happened, lol.

you must not read Nancy's thoughts about many issues.
That said, my parents and siblings are very very Christian and they all voted Obama.
