I'm sure that they will allow those practices, and really, I don't have a problem with most of them. I am very pro life but some of the other ethical/moral issues don't really upset me one way or the other. I am fearful of legislations that will turn things I say/do/feel into "hate crimes" or cause my pastor or other spiritual leaders to be afraid to speak. That's just one of the big issues for me. I'm still kind of thinking on this and am getting really sleepy LOL
Oh wow mama, may I ask what you say/do/feel that might be construed as a hate crime?

I have not heard anybody say this... All I have heard (and, not much thankfully) is the opposite.
I live in suburban Maryland so I haven't heard the opposite even once. Just junk like "Obama's gonna be the head N in charge!" and "It's about time the White House became the black house." Crap like that.

I'm not getting it. What things might be seen as hate crimes?

His race had NOTHING to do with either why I voted for him or for why I'm so proud of him right now.
I agree.
The fact that he is our first black president was nothing more than an added side bonus. BUT once he was named our president elect, it because profoundly clear what we have just done. Everything else aside, we have just elected a black man as president. *blink* This is an Abraham Lincoln, man on the moon, signing the Declaration of Independence sort of moment.
For the immediate, he is the man that I believe can mend a nation and open the arms of the world.

And, sure, we can say that we don't really know him, but, you know, we've seen him a whole lot. He's had cameras and reporters in every aspect of his life. I'm sure we've seen a whole lot more of him than he might have liked. I'd think that if this were all a front, we would have had the opportunity to have observed that by now.
Not to be rude or start anything... but do you also believe all "reality shows" are real? I'm not saying he is or isn't. I'm not saying they are or aren't... Just wondering.... for the sake of discussion.
Tiffany, I've heard the opposite way more. Of course, I live in Kansas which is really pretty white.

"Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
Jesus said until him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And, the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments have all the law and the prophets."
Obama is a Christian, I don't see him making any waves for other Chrstians...

These words resonate in my head and heart.
Humility and humble, not force and power.
Gawd, I feel like such a pessimist right now, and I HATE pessimism. But I HAVE to ask - do you think they write their own speeches?

You do know that Obama says he is not in support of gay marriage?

I really doubt your fears will come to be. Most of us are human as well as Democrats, lol. I've had my religious freedoms and beliefs laughed at and demoralized all my life. I'm not inclined to do that to anyone else, nor am I inclined to support anyone who would do that. I can't imagine I'm the only one who feels this way.
For the record, I felt the way you did last election. I've never been part of a religious majority and likely never will be. I fear for my rights and beliefs every time another Bush takes office . Now begins four years of breathing just a tiny bit easier, lol.
(((hugs))) to you mama. I really have been there and empathize with your fears and anxieties. I promise you that even as a Barack supporter I would never support the squashing of others' rights in favor of my own.
I am fearful of legislations that will turn things I say/do/feel into "hate crimes" or cause my pastor or other spiritual leaders to be afraid to speak.
As a fellow Christian, I have to say that if there is truly something going on within the church I was attending that could be construed as a hate crime, it would be time for me to find a new church. That seems like a big red flag to me.

I think the people who have been hated and beaten and spit on and murdered probably do.
So because people have experienced racism it makes sense to elect someone based on race? I thought the idea was to see people for who they are rather than the color of their skin. I don't think we can say that we've moved beyond racist thought until skin color is a non-factor. Otherwise its just another side of the same coin.
His religious affiliations don't matter to me, he can say he is whatever he wants to say. It's his voting records that matter. I only know 1 christian who actually voted for him. In my circle of christians there are many waves similar to mine.
But like I said, I'm just trying to figure out what big deal is about him. I'm fully understanding the color barrier and I actually think that is a good thing, I just don't understand why he has been revered as a celebrity. Even the media has said that he is, so I guess that is what I wanted to know.
I do need to get to bed, hopefully some other mamas with similar beliefs can step in for me now lol
