To me, the reason liberals have more to fear from a conservative government than the other way around is this:
A liberal government (could) give gay people the right to marry. This in no way stops conservatives from getting married, or from disliking gay marriage or teaching their children it's wrong. But a conservative government works to ban gay people from ever having the right to do so.
A liberal government preserves abortion rights. this in no way forces conservatives to have abortions, to agree with people having abortions, or to teach their children that abortion is okay. But a conservative government bans them.
To me, it just seems that liberal government is about granting rights to all, and allowing people to use their good sense and morals to guide whether they avail themselves of those rights, whereas conservative government wants to ban everyone from having those rights because they don't agree with them. And conservatives are supposed to be about less government? It seems like that's only true when it comes to money, not what happens in our bedrooms. What's with the conservative obsession with other people's sex lives?
