To those that have answered my questions, thank you. I certainly didn't want a race debate or anything like that started, I just genuinely wanted to know what was the appeal and now I have a little better feel I guess. Now all I/we can do is watch and wait to see what happens.

I don't think you have to worry about hate crimes and church. He sat in the pews of the church with Rev Wright for 20 years, and we know what came out of his mouth.

That being said, I am afraid as well. So much so that is over shadows any kind of historic election. I am trying to find a way to be hopeful today.

I felt like under McCain, my choice to live as an atheist would be encroached upon. I felt like he would make more and more laws based on the bible/Christianity. So I guess I can understand how you feel Charlotte, from the other side of the coin.

I should not have read this thread because there are some things that were said that really are not taken to themselves personally.

How many people knew McCain and were thrilled for him enough to vote.
They saw the same things we saw with Obama and made their choice based on what meant the most to their personal value system. (which is how it is supposed to be)

How many people chose McCain early on based on race or gender(fearing a woman being the democratic cadidate)

And how many churches I have been part of that tried to innocently convince me of who would be the best president based on abortion and gay rights.

If those issues are why you want to vote, then cool, go that way. But each of us knows little about our candidates anyway and none of us knows exactly how life will go when there is a president because we are not future predictors. We dont know what will happen. We can only go with what we feel will be best.

I want my open minded- christian- new age witch -"whatever people call me" religious freedoms!!!!!!!!
My spiritual life is engrained in everything I do.

and that IS WHY I VOTED OBAMA. besides many other reasons.

A government that pushes agenda and hides behind the cloak of their religion to get the people to support them for religious reasons bugs the heck outta me and 4 more years of that would have, i felt taken away MY PERSONAL religious freedom.
i feel I have hope now

As for Obama, I think he's a creative word manipulator, if I can call it that.

Second, well, we'll just sum this up to say that he keeps some very sketchy company. I think one of the best ways to tell something about someone in Washington is to tell who they are A) related to B)sponsored by and 3)including in their list of advisors.

Thank you for educating me on assessment of personality. I think that it really taught me something that I had not known. I will certainly take what I have learned from your teachings. Next time I have a question as to individual trustability, personality, sociopathy, and the like, I'll know where I can get help.

I appreciate your information, have taken note of what I have learned, and you can absolutely trust that I will use my new knowledge in future decisions. (said in all seriousness)

Jesus said until him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And, the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments have all the law and the prophets."

It's that easy. If you believe that stem cell research is wrong, then by all means refuse treatments/cures that result from it.

My views on abortion do not mean that I am pro-abortion. It simply means that I know that I cannot presume to know what is best for another person.
I agree!

Rivka,

Wanna spill who you're related to?

I understand the nature of your concerns with Obama and the Middle East, though I won't claim to actually understand to any great depth. I don't think any single US president is going to have great power to create the change either side wants there. But I hope Obama does as well as anyone could with that tough situation.

Do you feel any better that Obama has offered the chief of staff position to Rahm Emanuel? (Um, he sounds like a bit of a nut, but it seems that he has strong persuasive abilities.) It sounds like Emanuel's not entirely interested, though.

We adopted a very narrow view of what type of person is acceptable and entitled to the human rights.
We alienated the rest of the world and undermined our position as a "superpower."
We didn't recognize that many citizens were very unhappy with the status quo. Those who disagreed with policies were, at the least, marginalized.

There is more (supreme court, etc) but I am tired.

Tonight I cry because there is hope that we can make some amends. Obama is not afraid to address these issues out in the open. I have hope that we can be a country every citizen has a fair shake and a voice. A place where caring about your community above your wallet is not considered a un-American.

Awesome. Damn you guys, making me cry all over again.

I wish I were feeling as confident and happy and proud right now as the majority of you.

I recognize the significance of a black man being in this office and I am glad for that. We have come a long way, it is true.

As for the rest, I will sit back and hope and pray you are correct in your trust and confidence in this decision.

Chicklet-teeth-guy, no question. I've always been fond of chicklets, after all.
