Does it not seem perplexing to anyone else, that Hillary supporters would then go to McCain? I just don't see the politics as being at all similar. And Camille, were those numbers pre or post her speech at the convention? She definitely gave a strong push to her supporters to support Obama.

and another for Jen's comment re: big oil

This smacks of a sinking political ship trying to grab onto the last undecided voters

I disagree ... its balancing a ticket. McCain is a moderate conservative, she is more right. In order to represent the republican platform more honestly, they needed someone more conservative than McCain.

Its a HUGE plus that she has executive experience as well as being a mother of 5.

Ya know what her kiddies names are ....

Track 18, Bristol 17, Willow 13, Piper 7 & Trig Paxson 4 months

Not important, but interesting

I don't remember which day she spoke, but they were afterward. Before that, I think he was pulling more like 35% and he didn't lose as many as I thought he would once Hillary spoke. I think everyone realizes that Hillary and Bill had to do what they had to do, and that's the only reason they did so -- buck up and fall in line. The day before Bill spoke, or maybe a couple of days, I forget, I heard he had been speaking comparing (this is my paraphrasing) "candidate x and candidate y... let's say candidate x completely agrees with everything you believe in, but can't get anything done. Let's say candidate y agrees with half of what you believe in, and can get things done. Who are you going to put in office?" basically laying out the challenge that McCain will get the job done and Obama won't, etc. I think for independents and for more conservative democrats, that is one definite issue. I think experience is a tremendous problem for the Obama campaign, which is why Biden was chosen and also Biden was chosen because he is old-school and a hard-hitter -- Obama isn't supposed to be hitting McCain hard, because he is supposed to be "above" it, so when Biden does his job, no one will blink because it's okay for him to get down and dirty.

I can't be the only one really surprised that Palin was McCain's choice. I need to read up on her more.

agreed.

I really thought he would go with perhaps Cantor or Ridge. Of course, Cantor would have been a bit of a liability with the anti-semitic crowd, but both are well-liked and would have been a good push for him. I assume he considered that heavily and still chose Palin, so I am going to really be watching now to see how she stands up. I have to say, I have been so disgusted this entire year with how the "race" went, I have barely paid any attention to politics for months, which is not usual for me. So I guess now I am back to news-junkying. LOL

I vote based on the person, yes, but mostly politically. I can't vote for McCain because I disagree with so much of his politics. Even if I had been a die-hard Hillary supporter, I would be voting for Obama. And even if Hillary had won the primary (I voted for Obama), I would be voting for Hillary.

That site is kind of funny--they're mad that Obama didn't pick Hillary. They say that

. I guess we're all supposed to just forget what Biden said about Obama, right? Fat chance.
But somehow if Hillary had been the candidate, it would have been OK to forget all that she said about Obama? Ironic.

Ayn Rand changed the way I think about a lot of things.

I'm voting Libertarian.. my state will go to Obama, so my vote doesn't matter. I'm voting with the hope of getting a 3rd major party status.
