iTunes savvy mamas

I need help! Please, please please help me!

Fabulous DH got me a Nano for Christmas. So I thought this would be a perfect time to migrate our iTunes library from the kids' computer (my old one) to my new computer running Vista.

I tried following the instructions on Apple's site. Got as far as getting the music onto the iPod, but when I opened it through "My Computer" I could not see the music file. That kind of ended everything :so confused"

So I called Costco's concierge service. They tried to walk me through the Apple site's instructions and we met the same brick wall. He consulted with some other people there, and we tried to drag and drop the library over. That didn't work either.

So Costco set up a conference call with Apple. Things got messed up, and for some reason they weren't able to get all 3 of us on the phone together. Meanwhile, Apple tells the Costco guy that they made changes in iTunes 7.x and that any music that wasn't purchased thru iTunes can't be transferred over. How the Hades can this possibly be true??? Do I really have to pull out all of my CDs again and re-rip them into iTunes on the new computer? That's seriously a month long process!

Say it ain't so! Can anyone with iTunes and Vista walk me through the transfer process?

I think it's true that if you can't transfer the music via the iPod. - Copy or Transfer Music and Songs from iPod to PC and Computer without iTunes » My Digital Life

OK, so if I were running XP, you could help me?

This is the article from Apple, so they're saying I should be able to do this:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

Problem is, it doesn't work

How soon do you want to do this? I'm switching from Mac to XP and last year did vice versa. This week dh will be moving all my music *back* to XP from iTunes (he has to make it work on Windows where it's been working on Mac but previously worked on Windows - clear as mud? ) and I could ask him to walk me through it. I know it's possible, I don't think you'll have to rerip your CDs. DH told me about a program called Senuti (itunes in reverse) and he's used it - it works perfectly - I just don't know how. He's "my I.T. guy" Anyway, I'll ask him about it today and see how it's done. Like I said, I know he's done it at least once now!

I'm not in a rush. Please keep me in mind and let me know how it works out.

Well, apparently it doesn't work with Windows. Senuti, I mean. It's only for Mac OS's.
There's a way to do what you're wanting to do, but dh doesn't know offhand what it is - we both have XP Home, have never run Vista on ours or anyone else's computers. He did say that 'technically she should be able to do it without reripping everything' if someone else has found a way to do it. In other words, he'd need to dig deep to find a way. (Of course, right? ) He said that 'plainly, ol' Steve [Jobs] and ol' Bill [Gates] just don't like to play nice with each other'

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but that's what we know here.
