mush, like a porridge, Maybe pita-type bread. The wise men were probably looked highly upon and were probably well fed by their villagers. The shephard boy probably ate beans and things he found and maybe the occasional meat (lamb, of course), as well as mush.

Well, the question is, do you believe that Joseph and Mary were very poor as legend would have it, or do you believe that Jesus came from a powerful family as others believe?

If poor, maybe some unleavened bread.

Did you see The Nativity Story (not for littles btw, but beautiful)? They ate unleavened bread they brought along on their journey.

"Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
Jesus said until him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And, the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments have all the law and the prophets."

I loved that movie. I took my DD to see it, but she was 9 at the time.

Anyway, I tend to believe Joseph and Mary were poor.

Poor here, too. After all, if they were from a powerful family they would have had the Hilton welcome them with open arms into the presidential suite.

I didn't see it - but I feel I should now.

I really liked it, but I would not have any small child watch it. They kill babies (you don't see it, but you know what is happening).

Well, since it was spring, they probably had pita and lnetils and maybe some early pea tendrils.

The wise men, well, they didn't make it until Jesus was a toddler. the probably had pita and lentils with curry!

no kidding. But, I really would like Lauren to see it. The baby killing portions are in the first few minutes on either side of the movie. I want to watch it again and see if I could cut out the beginning and the end in such a way as to have her watch it and not look disjointed. But, it is PG-13 and I think it is PG-13, but the girl who plays Mary is a dream. And, she came from nowhere.

Considering the historical accuracies, I think my older two - maybe three - could handle it. I'll have to look into it.
Thanks!

My kids are 6 and 7 and we haven't watched the whole of the movie yet (got a bad disk from the library- but we did watch the first 10mins). I had read the warnings and reviews and so we had a long talk about what was about to happen before I started the movie, then we stopped the movie after the scene and talked some more. It is a bit of history that they were already familiar with but without the dramatic music or images (though limited). The hardest thing for them was just the fact that they start the movie there and then go back a few years to start the movie, so thats the majority of what they wanted to talk about.

Its definitely something to be aware of and warned because it is not subject matter to be taken lightly/casually with anyone but especially children. BUT I am fine with it for my kids (with the remote control in hand).
