and I'm confused because this sounds like she should have clogged pores and she doesn't. It's just a rash that showed up after her bath the other night, but then was pretty much gone in the morning. Later that day when she woke up from her nap, it was there again (she sweats when she sleeps) and then it was gone again. Today, dh put sunscreen on her because they were going to be outside, and it came back. Tonight it's gone.
What is up with that?

Here are the pics. Sorry they are blurry, but you get the idea.
This has been continuing to happen whenever she is out in the sun for more than 10-15 minutes. After she is inside it begins to fade. It's now 9:00 and it is just barely noticeable. But you see how dark it was when she came in! She was in the sun last summer without any problems. Any ideas?

Ps. I'm back to dial up for the time being, so I'm only able to check every once in awhile on replies so we don't tie up the phone line. Sorry for any inconvenience or frustration...

whoa! I don't think it looks a thing like prickly heat rash, which from all I know is raised bumps, kind of like blisters, that can be red but can be clear.
Is it itchy at all? How about polymorphic light eruption? (we used to call it "sun poisoning, and I used to get it some, though not nearly like that! And Erik had a sun reaction like that last year)
It sounds like it might be this one, because of the fact that it does fade like this. The rest talk about fading within days, and hers fades relatively very quickly.
Solar urticaria — Individual hives typically fade within 30 minutes to two hours. However, they usually come back when skin is exposed to sun again.
We don't have a family history of it though, that I'm aware of. I sometimes get "splotchy" in the sun, but it isn't slightly raised like hers is.
I'm not trying to be whiney. I know many mamas only wish their kids had this type of thing. But why in the world do my kids have all this fun stuff? Lactose intolerance, soy allergy. Now this. Sigh. I know, take a deep breath. It might just be a flukey thing, right?
Is it smooth or raised. If it's smooth, we all did that when we had fifth disease. Hot or sun and the rash was bright red, as you cooled down it faded. Do her cheeks look "flushed" at all?

If you mean do her cheeks look flushed all the time, no. If you mean in the sun, sometimes, although her arms are far more flushed. It is slightly raised.
Thanks mama. I'm going to play with her diet a bit. She doesn't eat well, so maybe I need to try to get some of the suggestions... flax seed, etc... in her.

yes. What you are describing is what happened to us, but it wasn't just in the sun, it was also when we got really hot. The rash had that lacy kind of appearance, there was only the slightest raised areas, for the most part it was more flat than like hives. I've googled fifth disease pictures, but they're all over the place in appearance. This is as close as I can get to what we looked like: Fifth Disease Rash
Only it would get darker in the sun and we didn't have it all over. Most of us just had it on our face and arms, Morgan also had it on her legs. Other than this, the older people's joints ached and the youngest children just slept slightly more than usual.

Yes, when I read this I remembered at day care last week Donna mentioned that when she woke up from her nap one day when she was hot that she had the rash on her arms again. Also, dh mentioned that a couple weeks ago her chin was all red for a bit. We thought perhaps she was getting her two year molars and that she was drooling and aggravating the skin, but we thought that was wierd because we hadn't noticed any drooling. She was pretty cranky around that time too.
I'd much rather it be fifth disease than photodermitis Thanks mama. If this is it, I'll be a much happier mama. One more type of allergy or sensitivity and it might just send me over the edge, lol. I'm just going to sort of watch her for now then.
