Son is having problems with skin

My son has severe eczema and it has flared up AGAIN. He has his topical ointment that he is to put on the red patches, plus he uses lotion 2x's a day, morning and night. This lotion is the only one he has liked using (it is in a blue bottle) but lately it has been making his skin red and burning.

His scalp is ALWAYS flaking. We have tried numerous dandruff shampoos and even tried Tea Tree shampoo (that was $9.00 for a small bottle) and he doesn't like it, says it burns his scalp. He has been trying to get away with just shampooing maybe once a week and just wetting his hair down, that is not going to work because he lifts weights, therefore sweats.

His acne has flared up again too. He washes his face with Dove, which is what the doctor had told him to use. He doesn't eat chocolate or hardly any greasy food... I am at a loss on this one.

For your runners out there: he has been doing some running in his gym class, relay or something like that where they run to the line and stop then go back and running a certain number of laps... anyway his big toe started hurting and he found that it was getting blood up under the front of the nail, so we thought time for new shoes, well the new running shoes aren't helping as this is still happening.... what should he do?

I appreciate your help in advance!!!!
Thanks,
Shanny

Couple of ideas:

For the dandruff - get a good dandruff shampoo. My daughter is using Nizoral with good results. It's also stinking expensive but she can now use it every other day with a regular shampoo in between and it works fine.

For the skin - Make sure he's wearing only cotton, using the lotion right after he showers - within 2 minutes of getting out. This will lock in the moisture. Use a VERY mild soap - we can ONLY use handmade soaps here now. Even Dove is too drying for my hubby. I love Kristerae's soaps. Kristerae also has some great lotions and salves that have helped us - the Chickweed and Red Clover is amazing and helps the really bad patches as does the Blue Chamomile Shea Cream.

For the face - I'm not sure on this one since we all have good skin - not prone to breaking out. My second daughter breaks out a little and we've just found using Kristerae's face cleanser and then her Zit Zapper is helping a lot. I'd not use Dove on my face - it's VERY drying IMO.

For the toe - That kind of thing happens. I've heard a lot of runners getting that just from their running. I'm sure that some of the runners can help with that (maybe even post a separate post in the "Mamas In Training" Forum.

thank you ann for replying. We have tried all of the dandruff shampoos that walmart current has on the self (you see under my sink).

I think I may want to try the homemade soaps to see if that helps. His dermatologist has just told us to use the dove soap (liquid).

Most everything he wears is cotton, as that is what he likes because they don't "rub" his skin wrong as he has had that problem.

I do no know of anyone that makes homemade soaps or face wash, but if you could forward me their names, I will check with them to see what they think.

Thanks again!

Look up Organicmama here on AM - That's Kristerae and she's got some amazing stuff. She also had posted here or on her group about a tea to make to use as a rinse to help with flaky scalp - I'll see if I can find that for you.

Oh - and Kristerae's site is dreamseeds herbal bliss
