Holy Crap!

So, I went to the grocery today because I wanted to go before this week's sale ended so I could pick up a couple of silly things that I had coupons for from the store website: chocolate chips and frozen french fries.

I had coupons that I printed (no limit) for $1 off each. Last Sunday, the fries were on sale for $2 a bag, so I got those for $1 a bag, and chocolate chips were $1.89, so I got them for .89 cents a bag. So, today, the chocolate chips were $2.19!!!!

I am getting a little freaked out with regard to food...Also gas went from $3.79 on Sunday to $3.95 on Wednesday, and it is now $4.19. I know there are reasons for all of this, but it is a bit frightening.

I have chosen to ignore it. When I go to the store, I only buy what is on sale. Yesterday I said forget it. I went to the farmer's market instead, and then the local bakery. I spent less and we have more. I wonder how the kids will feel at school munching on raw green beans when the other kids are eating dunkaroos (ugh - pet peeve...)?

raw green beans vs. dunakaroos

i chose to ignore it too. gas prices are stinking impossible for me to ignore because there's just no way to get creative about it. lol. i feel like the cost of food increasing really has not affected me much. i have $XX to spend a week on food no matter what the cost. it takes sacrifice of my desires (NOT health, i would argue) and convenience at times, but nothing that feels like a big deal at all. i just look at it like a fun challenge, although i know for many, the same challenge is anything but fun.

I've been reading here and you guys have been freaking me out about food prices...I was out of the country for months...home now. And so I was bracing myself for checkbook disaster when I went shopping yesterday.......

I went to Costco and got our staple 10 things (organic frozen corn, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, frozen multi veg stir fry mix, organic PB, veggie lasagna, albacore tuna, organic sprouted bread, organic milk, organic butter) and spent...................................... $.78 more than I did on May 12 for the SAME 10 things. Yes not even a dollar more. <shrug>

Gas was $3.79 when I filled up yesterday evening versus $3.99ish if not over $4 when I left.

I guess we aren't seeing the commodity increases here yet??
