I've been slimming my bookshelves down lately too. I figured it was something I'd never do, but it actually has been freeing. We donated 300 lbs of books to our library sale in March. Getting rid of almost 2/3 is AWESOME!
It IS freeing in many ways...there is still all my favorite books in the house, plenty to choose from, yet we are getting rid of all these books we will never have to move again... I didn't get rid of most of the SF books...love 'em too much.

We have a small collection of our books we read often. Cookbooks, books we want to have in our lending library, etc. But the rest are gone. It took me forever not to hold on to them, but now I get 90% of the books that I read from the library anyway. The ones I love (which is usually directly connected to how late they are) I buy. I have bought a few new ones in the last year, but only ones I will use all the time. It has been a freeing path, that is for sure. Esp living in this tiny house with the 5 of us.

good job, Meg! I just donated about 300 books. I'm not taking anything we don't read or NEED as a reference book (if we're doing a unit study, we can use the library - I don't NEED every book I had).

As it turns out, I'm actually going to sell all the boxes to the Gainesville Book Co. and if they don't want them, they will donate them to the FOL, which rocks my world as they are much closer to my house. Plus they have awesome sales which I shall try to resist. A friend of mine came and took away 2 boxes so now I am down to 11 boxes, but I still have more to go through in the garage so will probably be up to 15 before I'm done. Maybe I'll get a couple hundred bucks which I can use to get Eli's touchmath
We've gotten rid of probably 300-400 kids books in the last month. When I was avidly thrifting, I'd let the girls all pick out a few of the 10 cent books. After a few years, it really added up and we were just drowning in kids books. I am keeping the faves (ok, probably 500 or so faves, but still) and will weed down even more in coming months. We usually have 10-15 books out from the library every week, so we don't need a thousand kids books here at home, you know?

selling them would really rock! I wish I knew of a place to do that. I don't have the time to deal with Amazon or anything, but if I could have just dropped off the truckload with a reseller and let them give me cash, I would have!
