How much/many baby clothes do I need??

I am sorting baby clothes and found I have way too much!! Baby is due in just a week, and I am just not sure how much to keep and how much to get rid of.

This is just my 0-3 month supply
I have
-20 onseis
-18 footed jammies
-4 sleeping gowns
-10 kimono tops
-approx 20 outfits ( I don't even want to count these)

I would like to dress little Joy up for church, and maybe grocery shopping, but thinking we will just be in jammies most of the time.

How many things should I purge? I am so sick of clutter, but hate to get rid of something I am going to wish I had kept.

Thoughts???

Thanks!!

Melissa

Well, for a wee one, I'd allow 2-3 changes of clothes a day......then decide how often you want to wash.....then keep that many things on hand. If you end up with a pukey baby, you'll go through lots of clothes each day keeping baby dry and fresh! Though, if you have a pukey baby, you'll have smelly laundry and you'll want to wash more often. LOL

Personally, I think from your list what I'd have on hand:

-none or a few if cloth diapering or 10-12 onesies if you aren't (Are you cloth diapering? If so, you'd want more Kimono tops than onesies! Onesies just aren't very practical with cloth diapers as they seem to not fit well and/or wick more.)
-3-4 footed jammies (though if you're going to use for clothes for every day then I'd have 8-10)
-3-4 sleeping gowns (I'd not cut down on these if you plan on putting them on baby every night.)
-10 kimono tops (If you're cloth diapering, I'd prefer these more than onesies. As add them to a pretty diaper or wool shorties/longies and you have an outfit!)
-approx 20 outfits ( I don't even want to count these)---for outfits, I'd pare down to 5-10 at most. Or, if they were hand-me downs, keep them all for now and see which you like using most in practice and give away as you go. Baby will grow fast anyway!

Thank you so much!! I will be cloth diapering, but not right at first. I really agree with your thoughts, I just wish I could get rid of everything I don't need right now with no regrets! I guess I'll hold onto some of it for now.

Once again, thank you so much!!

i know what you mean about wanting to pare down...i hate keeping things i don't need. but...i don't know...i'm thinking that if you have the room to keep all of the clothes, i would keep them. all of those outfits...some will not fit how you like and you can pass it along after it gets worn once. a couple will be much cuter than you thought, etc. i have always put babies in pjs and changed them into clothes most days, so i would want plenty of outfits.

seems like lots of onesies to me. i think i would just purge the ones that aren't as cute, stained, etc. same with the kimono tops...since you'll have pjs or outfits to wear if needed. it's not like you'll think, "oh darn, but i really miss that white kimono top and the yellow onesie." you might think that about an outfit though.

i know. no help!
