Huzzah for scratch & dent!

We got a call from a local friend the other day saying there was a new grocery store in town, a scratch & dent grocery. She said they had a bunch of organics for really cheap. So while we were out today we ran past to see if we could find them. On a whim we ran in & OMG.

For starters they take our food stamps! Second, there was all kinds of organic stuff. Most of it counts as "treats" on our menu but still. We spent $12 and walked out with a box of food, all organic; 2 boxes of frutabu treats, 2 boxes of cereal, a box of toaster pastries, a wheat free cake mix, a box of my favorite tea, 2 bottles of salad dressing, 2 boxes of mac & "cheese", aseptic vegetable stock, aseptic chocolate soy milk and a bag of spicy rice crisps. SO & I decided they are going to be our first stop each month, one of the salad dressings was the exact same bottle that we'd just purchased for $3 as a splurge the other night, only at this store it was $.75!

Moral of the story, look in your phone book for a scratch & bent grocery store!

I miss my lil salvage grocery store I always hit weekly, I use to get organic milk like $1.50 a half gal, bunches of organic yogurts 6/$1... just great deals on tons of stuff

I haven't found something like that here now where we live, but there has to be ---- right?!
Anyone a wiz on searching? lol I'm in Hampton VA 23669 LOL off to do some more digging because I seriously miss how much $$ we saved and how it helped stretch things just a bit further

I used to buy soooo much at the scratch and dent when it was near me. They got their food from Costco, so I could get a 24 pack of little Horizon milks for the kids' lunches, with one missing, for 1/2 price. Tons of stuff like that. My dogs had a couple of years where all their food was from busted, then taped back together bags of dog food (Costco brand lamb and rice, which I still buy for them).

Big Lots is a fun treasure hunt, too. Tom's toothpaste, Annie's crackers - unexpected treats.

Enjoy your new store!

That's the thing. This store just opened at the end of Feb! Even if you don't have one new, keep checking. You never know when one is going to open.

We have a store like that. I love it.

I am not "allowed" to go without DH though. It's in a bad part of town with lots of rough looking characters shopping. They have a police officer walking around in there all the time.

They have a huge sign over the door when you leave that says-

BEFORE YOU LEAVE!!!
Is your receipt correct?
Do you have all your items?
Do you have your children?

THANK YOU!

I am not joking. I took a pic with my cell phone to show my friends who didn't believe me.

I've only lived one place where I didn't really go outside after dark (walking to the store or something). After the second or third time someone tried to take me dh was all "okay no more after dark for *you*". Sometimes I look at our life then and our live now and wonder wth happened, yk?

anyway . . .
