We're going to try this for April, because geesh! how much money would that save us on groceries? I'd have enough left over to buy my food allergic person anything her little gluten-free heart desired.
We've never gotten food from them before so i don't know how there stuff is, but a friend told me they're good. Anyone else doing this?

I believe some folks on the CF (cystic fibrosis) lists use them, because it's terribly expensive to feed a kid w/CF since they eat tons, and it's terribly important as well to feed them as much as they can possibly eat.
Not much to be lost by trying!

It's a great program. If we had it locally, I'd sign up in a second.

Yikes, there is TONS to do before then. Gulp.
SHARE looks even neater since the food seems healthier - anyone know if there is a group out west? I can only find the regional sites - there is one for WI and surrounding areas.....
There are not any branches anywhere near where I live. However, I have heard wonderful things about the food quality and how this program really helps folks (like most of us) who are what they call "middle class" who make too much money for assistance but struggling or just barely getting by each month.
I think it is great that you have this opportunity!!!
A gal I'm becoming good friends with is really active in the local Catholic church and she has been wanting to get the priest to agree to some kind of program that would reach out to the community. We don't have anything like this in our area!!! And our area in Wyoming is one of the more populated places (after Casper and Cheyenne)......I emailed her and am going to phone her later on tonight.
Your welcome Michelle, I hope it helps out! I am sure there are many people in that area that can use it! One thing I think is really cool, on the website and in the flyers they give out with your order they give you a menu for the whole month and show you how to plan it all out and what to get. I have never done it full on, we have just ordered a share here and there, but I think it is a really great program!
Under the classic share, where it say 'variety of fruits and veggies', if I remember right that ended up being a bag of potatoes, bag of onions, bag of carrots, bag of apples, bag of oranges.
hope you like it! we used it for several months before we ended up getting a different sort of assistance and not really needing angel food ministries. i really really appreciated having it, but was SO very grateful not to have to use it for 6 months or so. i'm not a huge meat person, and their quite processed meats icked me out a lot. i did find that i liked it much better if i could kind of hide it in spaghetti sauce or in a crock pot meal or something that wasn't just eating it by itself. i try really hard not to be too negative about their stuff, though, because i think it's a great help to many...and has been a blessing to us as well. i figure we won't have to eat meat that icks me out forever! LOL!
thanks for the reminder to go look up the dates for april. we'll use it for a few months again.

We don't have AFM here, but I love SHARE - it saves me so much money, and the food is generally healthy - not organic or anything, but I can't afford organic right now!

Our church has a food ministry - and we hand out fresh produce once a month. Some months there are lots of fresh veggies and fruits... last month I heard there was a lot of pop and white bread... not much else.
Thing is, a lot of the people coming through at our church are homeless- and so the fresh veggies (especially) are difficult for them to actually use. They have no cooking equipment, nothing! So many of them live on the beach and have absolutely nothing.
We used a food pantry when we were pretty bad off. It saved us a few times.
Oh I am really hoping SHARE moves further down Texas... for now it's just the DFW area.
We tried AFM for a couple of months. Some of their stuff was good, some wasn't. In the end we decided it wasn't a good deal for us because we really don't want the cheap carby mixes that it often has, and only some of the meat was good. We can do that well at WalMart on our own.

Busy but attached mama to 8!
I just placed an order this afternoon for the first time. We've been meaning to order for a few months now but kept forgetting and missing the deadline each month.
We were at the AFM in December for a concert and the kids got to peek into the warehouse and said it was MASSIVE, they had just processed a record breaking month at 550,000 orders!
