speaking of cloth "paper" products...

Any brave souls here willing to admit to using cloth TP?

I'm seriously considering making some flannel bathroom wipes. I know DH wouldn't go for it, and I'm not real sure about hte girls-- they may or maynot. But I figure even if only the baby and I use them that is that much consumable products not being... well, consumed. Because I have to admit, I use a lot of TP. It would be better for my budget and better for the earth.

We don't seem to go thru a lot of TP. I buy good stuff tho, so you don't need much.

If I personally was ever going to do this, I think I would use cloth for anything non-poop related lol and then use paper for poop. I know some people don't mind dealing with poop, but now that both my kids are potty trained, I am ready for an indefinite break.

And here is another subject I would like to try. I would like to your my own TP but just for pee. I think I would be the ONLY one on board with this as my hubby already thinks I go overboard with my frugalness and my daughter shut the door on mama made pads as ewwwwwwwwwwwwww .(I'm working on de-mystifying her views on her menses.)
got to go, little one just woke

You bet I use cloth TP!!!! Proud of it.

Mine are mostly all flannel. I just serge between 2-3 layers of flannel. It depends on the fabric.

I try to recycle fabric to make my wipes, so the flannel can be worn a bit and if it is, I will layer it before serging.

I use a empty cat litter bucket with a lid and diaper pail liner inside to deposit the used cloth TP.

I can't stand paper TP now. Been using cloth for quite some time now....I think it has been close to 3 yrs now, long enough that I can't remember when I started using it.

The males in our house will not use it so I still buy Scotts brand TP for them (safe on septic). We don't have to buy very much TP at all which is great for the environment and eases the budget a bit.

HTH,

Michelle

I set up my system today. I ordered the wipes 3 weeks ago. They just came yesterday and I washed them up. I am making a wetbag to hang from the toilet paper holder for used wipes. Sophie and I will be using them. Poo needs to go on paper. I dont know if I feel up to big people poo on wipes yet. Atticus I dont mind.

I thought about this a few years ago and don't know why I didn't do it. We go through a TON of TP, I've got some bladder issues and I'm always going (LOL) Did you guys use baby type wipes? If I wanted to get some material, but can't sew could I just cut it with pinking shears? If so, what would I get? I'm thinking of trying this for dd and myself and keeping tp for other things (LOL) I have to admit that I haven't used cloth diapers for this baby I feel so guilty for spending money on disposables and for the environment, but I'm barely hanging on by a threat and just can't keep up with the laundry. Maybe this will help ease my concious

Teresa,

The laundry is not a big issue IMHO. (and both dh and I work outside the home and have a large family, and other community obligations)

Decide what size you'd like to have. It really is personal preference. Pinking shears may work but you may have some raveling...but really, they don't need to be pretty! *lol* Mine are of various sizes depending on when I made them and what fabric I used and how many layers I made them with.

I use them all the time, with both BM and urine. It is not any more gross than mama cloth....so if anyone already uses mama cloth, then you'll not have a problem using cloth for "all" types of....ehem....body fluids. *lol*

However, you have to be committed to doing it....otherwise it will just be a pain and frustrating.

I've never used mama cloth, there seemed to be an "ick" factor there for me (LOL) We aren't using cloth so far with this baby b/c like I said with all his appointments and now added for therapy I am not keeping up with laundry I think I will try cloth tp and see how it works.

:)

We used to use them for liquids but if anyone was going #2 we would use paper. I lost our stash of wipes when we moved and after living with my parents for a few months during the remodel I just forgot about using cloth. Now that Gwenny is potty learned I should make some new wipes for the two of us.

I use cloth; mine are either cotton/hemp jersey or organic cotton jersey wipes from Punkin-Butt (and they are overkill for pee wipes). DH and the boys mostly use paper, but that is pretty much a once daily thing, so they don't use much. If I happen to know when my youngest is going #2 I'll grab a wet wipe and have him clean up that way. But most of the time I don't know when anyone else uses the potty.

DH uses what he wants to use. The boys would use cloth f I taught them to, but honestly, we still have issues with using too much paper and I cringe at the thought of a plumber's bill due to the boys forgetting and trying to flush cloth (old house). I wish they'd all use cloth, and maybe they will in the future. For now I buy Seventh Generation TP (the paper wrapped rolls) in bulk twice a year, and I don't feel guilty about it.

We've used FBW (flannel butt wipes ) for 5 years now. Actually DD's never really used paper since I used cloth wipes when she was in dipes. Heck, I even make guests use cloth TP.

We have a basket on the back of the toilet with the wipes. Generally they are 4 layers of flannel, serged. Ours our about 3x4 or just big enough to cover your palm. When used they go into a small lidded trash can with an inner container.

Works great, wouldn't change a thing. Except maybe having more wipes. We always need more!

OK, I did it! I chopped up an old flannel nighty and made myself some wipes. I made the baby's with the yard of race car fabric I had. I put a small bucket by the toilet and so far am dropping them into that bucket. We can't flush toilet paper here, so same routine different recepticle. So far so good.

I think I may go ahead and make everyone their own set in different fabric-- color coded :OP That way no one has to use wipes some one else uses. They'll all get washed together so I don't know that it'll make a difference, but it might help the grossness factor.
