Question Cost of beans? Navy, kidney, pinto, etc

How much do you pay for your beans? I usually buy canned (I know, I know ), but I was surprised at the cost of the bags; I expected them to be much less expensive.

you'd be surprised how much they grow and expand once cooked. There's a lot more there than you'd think.

Yeah, depending on the bean, they're 2-3 times the size when cooked. A pound of dry makes 6 cups of cooked pinto beans. That's like 3 cans. And I can get pretty much any dry beans for $.60 - $1.00 a pound, so it's definitely cheaper. The real reason I buy dry beans is that they taste better to me, though. I like having some canned on hand as a convenience food, but we prefer to eat cooked dry beans.

Thanks ladies...that's what I was wondering...I am glad to hear the specifics when you say that 1 lb is like 6 cans. I was wondering where the savings were when the dry beans were $1/lb and the canned were $0.79/15 oz cans.

Dry beans here are about $1.20-$1.50 a pound which is CRAZY lol but I think that all the time. Anyhow, dry beans to me are oddly a "treat" because I don't do them often and I do think they taste much better. Beans are cheap either way you get them so I don't worry too much about the cost of canned over bagged.

Our canned beans are $.69 and the bags are something like $.89. But the bagged ones have less salt and go much further. Not as convenient though.
