I'm so proud of myself!

I know this is my 1st post here in a long time, but I just had to get out how excited I am! lol

My dryer broke about 2 years ago and I decided to hang clothes to dry to keep the electric bill lower. Then about 2 weeks ago my washing machine broke also. Having not much money to work with and a dh that is not handy, I decided to try to fix them myself!

I reseached for hours what could be wrong with each, heck I even had to reseach how to open the machines up. lol I ordered the parts online, replaced the drive belt in the washer, and replaced the upper felt and drum guides and also the bottom drum guide in the dryer.

They are both working great now. I actually cried when they were finished I was sooooo happy! After 2 years I have a working set! All for $49.82 including shipping for the parts. My hands took a beating though and are so sore.

Thanks for reading!
Mandy

That's wonderful! Congratulations.

I have done both of those jobs, but with dh's help. I'm the brains and he's the brawn, we usually joke. I love figuring out what's wrong, and telling him what to do. ROFL!

Good work! I've done some of my own appliance repairs starting with my mother's stove when I was 15 (I still don't even know how I knew how to do it that time, but it worked perfectly). It's such a good feeling to make something broken work again. Congratulations on repairs well done.

That is absolutely wonderful! I would love to hear more about your search online to fix your machines. I have a sewing machine that needs repair and I'm too cheap (ahem=frugal) to send it to be fixed.

That is fantastic! I am very impressed. I tried to fix my front-loader washing machine when it broke. I had the hardest time getting the back off. In the end, I gave up. I soooo wanted to fix it myself. I know the powerful feeling of accomplishment you get when you fix something you didn't think you could.

Soledad, sewing machine repair help is available at this yahoo group:

Thanks everyone! I guess I forgot to say that my dh has 2 jobs and works all the time too. I feel so blessed that it's fixed! And they are still working! Now on to fix our broken extra fridge. lol

Soledad- I sew and I'm really not sure about sewing machine repair. I know that Arasmama on sewingmamas.com repairs or services her own. She would be a great person to ask. The boards that I got info from didn't having sewing machine info.

Wow! That is so awesome! I am completely not mechanically minded so I'm scared to try any appliance repairs. I'm so jealous of those of you who can do it. WTG!
