I'm not buying a table!

I just had to "announce" this - I don't know if it's because I need the accountability or if it's because it's such an accomplishment.

We have a small, circular teak outdoor table from Pier 1. It's almost three years old and the elements have taken its toll on it. The table is crackling and looking less than stellar, and is quite small for our crew. Big trash pickup is this week and I had planned to put it out early, in hopes that someone would take it and make it their own.

Well, I realized that if I do that, I'll need to replace it. I can't find something big that will seat everyone in our family, and I think it's a sign that we should just keep this one for the time being. It's stupid to spend hundreds of dollars on another one when this one holds plates and cups just as well.

It's liberating. Maybe at the end of summer our house will have sold and we can get something on deep clearance, too

But, today - I am NOT buying a table!

Can you throw a pretty tablecloth over it? I have a really pretty vintage one I found years ago, and whenever I use it on my old glass patio table, I feel happy and it perks the table right up. Makes it look festive, but casual and old fashioned.

also if it is teak, oil it!

Yeah, hit it with some sandpaper (go along the grain), then oil it. It will look like new.

A good hardware store should have tung oil, that is what you want. Sounds like a good plan!

My little soapbox - I'm finding that it *is* important to celebrate *not* doing something when that something is consuming. The default, the standard, is to consume - and part of why that is, is that consuming *feels like* you're doing something positive. It's so much harder to feel positive about the lack of something, yk? So I am all for celebrating not buying stuff!

Is tung oil nontoxic? I assume the kids will inevitably drop food on it and pick it right back up to pop it in their mouths You know how lovely children can be

Oooh, good for you! It can be so hard to delay a purchase like that, and very easy to justify getting a new one.
