I am so bummed! Our Goodwill has REALLY gone downhill!

I tried to do some school shopping at Goodwill for Alex and Cyan and spent $26 on 5 items! OMG! That is SO much... usually t shirts were $99 and pants were from $1.99 to $4.99 depending... but now they are all at least $3.99 and up! CRAZY! I may as well shop at Old Navy.

Ours is the same way. I can get better prices on stuff on clearance at NICE stores!! So I rarely shop there anymore at all.

Our Salvation Army prices have gone way up like that too. It's ridiculous considering they get their merchandise free via donations. So I only shop at the cheaper ones and only donate to the cheaper ones too. Or I only go on half-price or stuff-a-bag sales.

Aww, I wish you guys could come thrifting with me!!

About 25 minutes South of here, there is a huge Salvationa Army that has racks and racks of kids clothes. It's basically in an old grocery store.

Anyway, they have Family Day every Wednesday (and open till 8!) where everything but the most recent weeks stuff (each week has a different color tag) is all half off!! And their prices are usually 49 cents to $3.99 for kids stuff, the higher prices being things like really nice dresses or coats. Adult stuff goes for 99 cents to maybe $8.99 for a really nice dress or coat.

I've found tons of really nice, higer end clothing for the girls for next to nothing. If it's nice and cute and for a girl, I'll buy it and store it for when someone fits into it.

Our thrift stores are the same way. I've been looking for awhile now for fall clothing for back to school and not much to be found. I can get Target and Old Navy clearance stuff fairly reasonable, however not always in their sizes.

When I visit my in laws in Atlanta, we sometimes go to their local Goodwill Regional Store (next to a regular Goodwill). They have a $1 bin that they just dump clothes into without sorting. You just start digging and find whatever you can. We have gotten tons of stuff that way.

Other than that, I've gotten spoiled by my mother and MIL. My mom just does a lot of garage saleing and keeps my kids clothed. My MIL gives us lots of clothes from the $1 bin from Goodwill, too. I'm so lazy about getting my kids clothes, lol! I was running short on clothes for my youngest and so I hinted a couple of times to my mother that I needed some clothes for him. Next thing I know, she's got a couple of bags worth from some garage sales. I keep my kids dressed for next to nothing this way. Maybe I need to give my mom some money so she doesn't feel abused, lol, but she does it willingly!

My SIL who lives in Atlanta has a friend who nannies for several wealthy families. When they have clothes they need to get rid of, they just give them to her friend, and her friend gives them to her. She gets tons of name brand almost new clothes for nothing!

And where is this magic store located in our fair city? I must know. We need a field trip.

The regular metro Atlanta Goodwills are $2.61 for kids' clothes, at least in my area. But they run sales pretty regularly. Even so, we get the majority of the littler people's clothes at consignments sales because the clothes there are mostly nice, so it's a lot easier to find what we need.

Now that the boys are bigger, the Children's Place outlet clearance rack is my friend. I got new shorts for $3 and pants for $4 for the boys last time.

I really don't know Atlanta well enough to tell you. I'd have to ask my MIL or SIL. Its right next door to a regular Goodwill. It opens at 10am, and you have to get there early, and wait in line. There is one lady who is there every morning (EVERY MORNING!). She goes in and grabs 2 or 3 shopping carts and just crams them full of clothes without even looking. Then she goes off to the side to sort them out, and tosses back her rejects. I assume she is buying this stuff for resale. But maybe she is sending it all to South America or something (she's hispanic). In the book section, you can get the books super cheap and there is usually a couple of people who sort through the books. All this is pretty intense for that first hour. So don't even bother hoping for decent stuff unless you get there when the place opens! LOL! Its stiff competition! I'll post the location as soon as I can talk to my IL's.

The place I'm talking about is right next to this store. They have two different entrances, but there are under the same roof.

Our Goodwill has $1 tag sales every Sunday. There is a different color tag on sale each week. This past Sunday I got a gorgeuos Old Navy winter jacket for my daughter for $1. She also found two nice Gymboree sweaters with the "right" color tag. So we ONLY go on Sundays and go to a smaller thrift store every other Thursday. The stuff there is only a quarter to fifty cents each for kids stuff. You really have to search to find the nicer stuff cuz the place is really disorganized but that's part of the fun!
