Did you know that...

I wanted to start a post about the ways we do things that are healthy and not the things that you would think of normally. I love those posts. They always give me insite and great ideas. So here is mine for today:

Did you know that the deli section in the grocery store will usually give out a peice of cheese to small children who want a "taste". Every few times we go in and Cyan wants a cookie we do this instead.

Add yours!

That we get the cheese and the cookie?

Here's mine:

Did you know that a piece of cheese before the cookie can keep the crankies at bay? It's as is she never had the cookie if she's had the cheese first...**fingers in my ears to any crunchy dissenters**

One more:

That if you go to ACMoore without that week's coupon they will give you 10% off if you ask them if there are any specials going on? I usally ask this in the shortest line and ask quietly. I've yet to not to be given the 10% off.

Did you know that you can get free cold water at Disneyland at the Baby Care Center or First Aid Station? Just bring your own bottle. The rest of the drinking fountains at DL are not cold. This has cut our expenditure on cold water at DL to zero.

Did you know that the Baby Care Center at DL has a special "commode/sink" for rinsing cloth diapers?

Did you know you can take your own healthy snacks with you pretty much everywhere if you or your child has a food allergy? Even at DL and places like the movies, sporting events, concerts, etc. Some places require more "proof" than others. An epipen is more than sufficient. We don't have one, but no one hassles me. You can take in any snacks you need to DL if you are diabetic, even a can of Coke or a candy bar.

If you have to eat out, Mimi's Cafe is pretty accomodating. You can get fruit with a child's meal AND request that it be all watermelon (for those picky eaters). You can get fresh-squeezed O.J. as the beverage and get free refills. Of course, my boys can no longer eat any of the kid entrees there, oh well. If we go we'll order the fruit plate, no muffin.

Another decent place to eat out is Souplantation. Kids under 6 are dirt cheap ($1.49). You can get lettuce, veggies, and fruit and skip the rest.

Almost any sit-down restaurant can provide you with a banana for your child.

My kids can't have the cookie or the cheese at the grocery store. But I think the cheese tip is brilliant for those who eat it.

You can bring in any food into DL. We bring in our snacks/lunch every time we go. We usually bring fruit and healthy snacks.

The last time we went, we had to open our backpacks to show the security. They were amazed that we had healthy snacks. They said they usually see candy bars and soda. We had fruit and water.

I like the cold water in the first aid room. We will have to fill up there next time.

Letting the kids eat at the sample areas at costco is a great way to fill empty tummies and keep the occupied. Also a great way to explore new foods.
