Does anyone not have a Checking Account?

Hey mamas! I have not had a checking account for years. It started because of money problems and we went on to file bankruptcy. Then we couldn't open one because of our credit. Well here we are years later and we have rebuilt our credit and saving money is going good! I really learned alot over the last few years and I use a cash envelope budgeting system. I use cash for everything and if I use my credit card(only for online purchaces) I put the $ in the envelope and pay it in full monthly. I really like this system! I am thinking of never opening up a checking account again! Does this sound rediculous? We have a Amscott nearby and I get my money orders for free. I have a savings account that we add to and don't withdraw from. Just wondering how wierd I am! LOL!

You are not weird at all. We do not have checking accounts either. I have a savings acct. that I use for check cashing and some savings. After i clear up this last bit of debt, I'll get another checking acct. with my old credit union. LaCap was better for me. I got the acct. through my sis. Ask a friend or family member who has joined one to help you get an account if that is what you want to do.

I don't have one right now ... well i do but it's in MD at a "union" banking place.. but i burned all my checks after someone broke into my appartment down here took a check from my lock box and over drew my bank account!! With no markings of a break in i was NOT a happy camper, because someone obviously had access to my appartment. I tried to get out of my lease and the people i rented from threatened me and my mother both. My mother was supposed to have closed the account, but she never has and there has not been any other checks or anything. PHEW!! .. If i do get checks again though there i will start from a higher number so that i will know and the back will if something ever goes wrong.

Basically the only reason i have that checking account any more is so my mother ( and threw her other family members) can put money in there for my birthday and other holidays instead of sending it through the mail, or she can get me little peices of my savings of Cd's incase of emergencies.

Any other time i use cash .. although checks would come in handy for bill paying now since we live in the boonies again( which i LOVE *G*)

I don't have a checking account. The only times it's been a pain have been 1) when someone writes me a check and 2) when I want to buy something off the Internet. I don't do credit cards. I've broken myself of my bad check floating habit!
