venting Dh said he wants me to get a job!!!! **UPDATE**

I have been telling and telling him and telling him until I'm blue in the face that things are tight. We need to stop spending (read: HE needs to stop spending). Tonight he saw the savings balance and flipped his lid like he had no idea we had so little.

I HAVE BEEN TELLING HIM!!!

Ok, super thrift, here I come.

UPDATE: Ok, dh has calmed down. He went to fencing and since it's a long drive, he had lots of time to "see the errors in his way". He came home and appolgized and said, no, he didn't want me to get a job. He know's it's just temporary and I'll be done with nursing school in two years. He just freaked out to see XXX.xx in our savings account. He didn't realize I needed to transfer xxxx.xx from our other account. But I have been telling him things are tight, now he's seen it first hand. So I guess this has been a good thing. I wouldn't mind bringing in another income as we would split-parent. We are commited to one of us always being home when the boys are home. This is something we won't budge on and are very united about.

Things are good. Thanks so much for the support.

Oh, I'll have to change my siggy line. My boys are 4 and 9. Not babies anymore.

I looked at your profile and didn't see how old your child/kids were, but maybe press on him the facts of working... You will most likely have to rely on more convenience foods (up grocery costs), factor in child care if necessary, gas, work clothing/uniforms, lunches and snacks, etc... It really adds up and you/he may find in the end, you may bring home about $15, or if you're as lucky as some people I know, you actually PAY money for someone to watch the kids!

Men have selective hearing, don't they? ((hugs))

Like the other mama mentioned, I'd figure out how much you'd acutally MAKE by getting a job. Here are some links that might help:

I'm glad things are working out. It was a crisis similar to yours that got my dh on the thrifty bandwagon. Maybe it will change his way of thinking about money more along the lines of spending less rather than making more??

We'll also be doing the split-shift thing once I'm done with massage school...and in fact are doing it now 12 hrs/week while I go to school. My kids are 5 and 3 and it works out fine. I won't be working full-time -- just part-time.

Thanks for the support.

The split-shift things works pretty good. We did it when I was in school for my nursing pre-reqs. When I'm done with nursing school I'll probably work nights or part-time when the boys are in school. We just feel so strongly they need one of us around when they are not in school.

Being home for your children really makes all the difference. I admire that determination. You are doing great!
