How much do you generally tip when you get your hair cut, wax job, manicure, pedicure, whatever other beauty treatments you may get? What do you normally tip? Do you do a certain percentage or a X amount depending on what service? I usually tip about 10 percent when I get my hair cut, and usually two dollars or so for my eyebrows being waxed (which is a little more than ten percent I suppose). Just wondered what the norm was.
Are you an organ donor? Does your family know? Visit www.donatelife.net for information about organ donation. If you are not an organ donor, why not? Think about it, you could save many lives by becoming an organ donor.
Hi Dawn! Around here, people tip 20% as a norm. I get my hair done by an owner of a salon and he refuses tips. There are two salons around me that does not want people tipping the stylists so I go to that one sometimes too. I pay about $40-$100 haircut. The services includes scalp treatment, shampooing, conditioning, parffin wax (for hands), massage your arms and hands while you get your hair cut, styled... and then they touch you up with make up (which I always say no, lol!)

People are reading my mind today. This the second thread that I was planning to start myself. LOL I just got my hair cut and styled yesterday. It's been like YEARS since I had it done, so hope I tipped ok. It was 25.00 and then I gave her 5.00. Was that ok????

my sister is a beautician and mostly lives off her tips! She said that if you work a job that makes money on tips (such as hairdresser, waitress, etc) you ALWAYS tip 20%. Because of her making me aware, I always tip that now too.
However she said the average used to be 10% and now is up to 15% so if you go anywhere that has the tip included (like parties of 8 or more) it is always 15% or more charged.
Also some places now have a tip total at the bottom, showing the total for 15% and the total for 20%.
Now if I think the service is HORRIBLE, then I leave 10% or less... shameless maybe, but...

Hey, I dont think anyone should get a tip at ALL if they do a horrible job. I mean, they KNOW that their income relies on tips and if they do such a terrible job... why should they get paid? Maybe they should learn to earn their tips
I was stupid. YEARS ago, I went to get my hair done chin length. The guy goofed. He ever said "oops". He chopped off about 2in worth of hair up to my ear! He asked me if I wanted it cut all around that length. Ummm... NO! So I looked like a freak with only once piece of my hair cut that short. And can you believe that I actually TIPPED that guy? Shouldn't have. I should have gave ZERO.
I try to put myself in other peoples shoes when calculating a tip. And I always tip 20% or more, bad service or not.
People are especially judgemental of their stylists. They're people just like you and me...they have families, bills, shop at the grocery store etc.
We make mistakes in our lives and the quality of our jobs haven't always been 100%. The service industry in this country is greatly populated by folks who are living "paycheck to paycheck", as do most Americans. Real folks just trying to get by.

Yes they are living paycheck to paycheck, and real folks just trying to get by... but there is no way I could honestly give someone a great tip even when they have done a lousy job. That is like telling them "You can give as bad service as you want and it doesn't matter". We had a waitress who basically took our order and nothing more. She didn't even deliver our food to us. Never came back except to give us our check. Does she really deserve a nice tip when she did *nothing* for us at all?
I don't really understand that really. I am understanding of people having bad days and all, but if it affects my nice and calm time away from the kids when dh and I are out to a date night... why should we pay even more money for crappy service. Might as well of just stayed home...
Want your tips... at least make sure you do your job... And if you DO screw up, don't act like it doesn't matter.

That's totally how I feel too. I had an absolutely horrible hair experience with my son getting his haircut once and I refused to give the lady a tip, and I know it pissed her off. But she yelled at him and refused to finish cutting his hair b/c he wouldn't sit still. I refused to pay for a full haircut and wouldn't tip her. LOL
And the more I think about it, I was wrong saying I do 10 percent, it does average between 15-20. I had a pedicure and manicure today and I tipped her a little more than 20 percent b/c she was soooo great! LOL For me it really depends on the service. If you do an ok job but ignore me the entire time, I'm less likely to tip you well. Same with resturaunts. I know these workers need their tips, but IMO if you're in a profession where you are working for tips, you need to have excellent customer service.
I guess I'm partial to being more forgiving of bad service because I had worked in the service industry myself for many years.
I've had really crappy days. I've forgotten to refill a few drinks and bring extra rolls. And I've also had folks leave me bad tips for good service.
And then- I became a hairstylist! Now I'm a sahm. I loved my job and my clients. I have clients that come see at my home still. They always leave great tips even though I insist that they don't have to.
I'm sorry that girl yelled at your son. Wow. She shouldn't be doing childrens cuts if she can't deal with the squirmies!
