Cut across with very sharp knife, as close as you can to the pit, both sides. then with a pointy sharp knife draw lines horizontal and vertical, turn the whole thing inside out and you just have to cut out the dices
simple and not messy at all.
*** editing to add that you do not peel the mango first!!! you just detach the dices from the skin at the end.
