I need your help... I pump twice a day at work and, because I am by nature a multi-tasker who is also clumsy, I peruse Amity while pumping. On several occasions, I've dripped breastmilk onto my skirt - the problem is, I can't seem to get it out when I wash them, so now I have several skirts with little droplet stains on them... I know it's the elixir of life, but I never thought it was like permanent ink. My skirts are fairly nice linen and cotton blends, and I'd like to keep them. Does anyone have any words of wisdom on stain removal... particularly after I've washed them, thinking that breastmilk would wash out like anything else???

Zout stain remover

I used this when I was BFing and stained my nicer clothes.

It's also recommended by the Flylady.

If I ran out of that, I used Oxyclean if able to on the fabric. I know a lot of mamas here don't like oxyclean though.

But w/ Zout, I've been able to get everything except permanent marker out of our clothes

You can get Zout in the laundry section of your regular grocery store. It does work really well.

bac-out by bio-kleen. sold at whole foods/wild oats type places. it get ANYTHING out!!

Bac-Out works great so long as it doesn't mess with the color - so do a test first.

I've had really great luck with the Stain Stick by Shout. Really! It has actually taken out stains that are long since set in, you can put it on your clothes and let it sit until you do laundry too.

Shout wipes work great too.

well--I haven't had good results with Shout...but I do good with oxyclean too...takes out everything I have ever used it on.

Maybe we need to get Julie a pumping bib with a lip at the bottom to catch the milk before it hits her skirt?

anything that removes and oil stain. i use regular dawn dish detergent...gets oil stains out well. there are also lots of things on the laundry aisle that get 'oil stains' out. hth

Yup, Zout...it gets everything out for me - especially those type of annoying spots that you expect to just come out with regular washing.

I already look like enough of a sideshow, as my lower-floor office has a big window (without drapes) near the ceiling, so I'm already hunched over my desk, trying to discretely pump n' read while the occasional person strolls by. Thankfully, it's at the rear of the building and people don't often do. You should have seen the time I lost control of one of the 'elements' while it was pumping and breastmilk went spraying all over my computer. My computer hasn't had an ear infection since...

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. I should have one of those side-by-side stain tests, like on commercials, and let you know the results. I'll do a little digital movie, with me in my rubber pumping apron (can anyone make me one of these?), spraying and rubbing various stain treaters/soaps into my skirts. Then I'll put it on the internet and draw a huge crowd of fetishists... but that's another thread...
