if you pay a water bill that will make your bill go through the roof !

The chain or plastic dealy (some toilets have a chain - some have plastic dealy) that makes the bulb (plastic balloon looking thingy) up and down is either kinked or worn out. You can but a replacement kit at the hardware store for like $5.00 just ask the folks in the plumbing dept.

In the mean time...just lift the lid and adjust the chain (or plastic dealy) and make sure that the bulb goes all the way up and the water stops.

sounds like the chain is broken
the chain that connects the flushing thing to the pumpy looking thing on he inside of the toilet

Does that make sense

I checked the chain and added another link to the distance.. it still kept running because it was going into the little overflow tube.... it was full but doing that... so I thought I needed to raise the ball thingy.. when I mentioned that I posted this problem on amity mama my husband said he could fix the problem... humph .. I guess all I needed to do was tell him I would post it and it would get fixed!!!! Hurray! now I can sleep.. Thank you for helping me out..

TIME/LIFE make some great How To books, one of which is plumbing. I found my set at a GS, but you can get them individually on eBay. I have diagnosed a fixed 3 different problems on our toliet because of this book.

HTH'S in the future!
