Anyone know what's wrong with my washer?
 

It won't empty or spin. I really don't want to pay someone $60 to come and 'look' at it.

I do not know.. responding so someone can tell me what is wrong with mine, too!

Mine will not spin AND it will not fill up with water.

There's prolly something jamming your pump. In our case it was "Kenmorius Cloggius" (aka a small plastic Playmobil fish) Dh took it out. Thank goodness he's handy!

Depending on what make and model it is, it sounds like the drive coupling between the motor and transmission is worn out. Most newer ones are nothing more than a piece of plastic that wears out rather quickly. Engineered obsolescece at its best.

If I am correct, it is a $15 part. I just replaced ours recently. Not that difficult for someone tha is inclined. There are instructions available on the repair site to replace it becasue it is a common problem.

I second the motor coupling(ours was, in fact, a $15 part)

Water pump-ours was jammed by a snap that fell off of a cover which caused water to drip on to the transmission and motor, which caused the motor to burn up. so we ended up getting a new/used motor($25 WOO HOO) and a new water pump(cant remember the price exactly $40 maybe-???)


all in all it was caused by one little snap off of a cover*ugh* And in the end we paid like $80 to fix the washer. The gratification of making that old dawg work again was worth it all I think...

Another motor coupling vote. We had the same problem and that is the part that had to be replaced.

Do you wash tennis shoes in the washer?
My washing machine went haywire once when my teen son with monster size feet washed his shoes obsessively like every week.

They end up messing up the machine. So he cannot wash his shoes in the machine again!!!! lol

It was the pump. Dh fixed it on Friday- thank goodness because the laundromat with two kids is no fun
