I need help with SHOE storage!

What do you use?

I have soooo many shoes. I've been purging some, but still.

We end up with a pile by the front door in front of the hall tree where A and I kick ours off. There is a small entry closet, too and it is piled high with shoes on the floor. If I can better organize the closet shoes, we'd be more likely to get all of them in there except maybe a pair each (in theory anyway )

Right now I keep the ones I don't wear often in a room upstairs that sort of functions as a 'closet' for me. It is a tiny room, but if I get rid of some of my stuff and organize the rest, it could actually serve as an office/craft room/guest room.

Then by the back door is where we kick off our outdoor garden clogs and boots. There is no covered (i.e. dry) spot outside to do this, so unless it is unusually sunny we have to dump them inside the door on a throw rug. This is in the kitchen.

How do you organize them?

goodwill

I store my uggs (I have two pairs) in my winter clothes bin, at the bottom, on their sides. They take up too much room all summer long.

I used to have something like 48 pairs of shoes - yeeaaars ago (like, pre-two-kids). Now I probably have 10, total. So, I say - aggressively purge and then pack off-season shoes away on shelves in the closet, in shoe bins (clear are my choice)

Then, I have two of those hanging closet organizers that have shoe cubbies. I keep Jack's hats in one and his shoes and the girls' flip flops in the other, atm. We also have two entryway benches that have lift-up seat tops where you can store things. All the shoes are in there.

In fact, timely topic because we're about to go through it and purge again! I want to get it down to one entryway bench, if at all.

Noooo, don't tell me to get rid of shoes! LOL Ok, I know, I know. But still, I need a good solution for by the doors. Even if I purge we are bound to have a pair or two each hanging out by the doors. Racks would work for the back door maybe. And definitely inside the closet.

What racks do you like? From where?

I have some 'shoe cubby' things in one closet from Target but I'm not crazy about them. They won't all hold a 'pair' of shoes and putting one/slot isn't really very helpful storage wise. I mostly use them for sandals since they will fit 2/slot.

I try to get them all back to the proper rooms daily. In my closet, I have a wall of shoeboxes and the large plastic drawers for those boxless shoes.

This is a picture of my shoe storage in my closet. I actually have another shoe shelf forming a corner there now.

Rob has his own shoe shelf (half that size) in his part of our closet. Emma has the hanging shoe thing. John's just sit on the floor in his closet.

In our mudroom we just have a big basket (the size of a small laundry basket, I guess) that we store under a shelf and put our shoes in. We come in and out and back door and kick off our shoes there. We end up just putting on shoes there, so our "main" shoes stay there fairly often.

i have a shelf (someone made it for me for another purpose...but basically it looks like a vegetable bin) and that is where all the kids shoes are. i like to have them by the door so i don't have to go on a hunt all over the house for tiny shoes. makes it easy for them to put them away and they are small so they aren't too unsightly.

dh and i usually have a pair on the floor there and we just try (sorry *I* just try) to take them back to our bedroom at night. I have a big big basket in the floor of dh's closet for him to chunk his shoes ....he's soooo not a shelf kinda fella. and then i have one of those shoe shelf cubby things in my closet for my shoes. i leave a couple in season pairs on the floor in front of it and basically use the shelf for out of season shoes.
