My house is kind of a hodge-podge of different things. I have a lot of 'donated' items from my grandparents. When they were living, if they knew that I needed something - they would get it out of their house and into mine faster than I could turn around (and we livein different states!). I also love oriental style, to that end we have a dining room set that is black lacquer and mirrors (which, unfortunately, is falling apart) and a black lacquear marble credenza (from my grandma). Our living room has black lacquer accent tables, record cabinets from my mother's parent's house - some kind of wood (modernish), 3 bookcases, and the piano (which I got when i was ten). The living and dining are open to each other, but I have a couch dividing them. I think that they work together because of the furniture that is the same in both rooms - even though I have different types of wood. Also both rooms have oriental rugs (which I'm looking to replace). My boys room is all blonde wood, except for the white crib and changing table (whichwe use as a bookcase). The guest room is a total mix of everything - black lacquer dresser and nightstand, mahogany bed, and white desk (which was mine when I was a girl). Our room is light blonde wood. The family room (in the basement) is 2 peach parsons chairs, a floral couch, and white wood bookcases.
There is very little in our house that we actually bought - most was given to us. So we make do. Although, for the most part, I like how it ooks.
Sorry this was so long.
