Everyone is getting books from me this year. I may make a playcape for a couple of the kids on my list too, but otherwise, I usually give books.

I like The Giving Tree, The Stinky Cheese Man, Sam and the Firefly (my favorite), Stellaluna, and the Jamie Lee Curtis books as gifts.

If you want to do natural play things, what about playsilks and clips? You could do a wooden kitchen set as a combined gift for the two of them. DS LOVES play kitchens. How about membership to the Zoo? The AZA has a great family membership for $50 and it gets in 2 adults and 2 kids. They can go to most AZA zoos and parks for free or for a deep deep discount.

I am trying hard not to give out big toys to kids anymore b/c it's not like when we were kids and toys were really expensive and you could rarely afford a LOT of them. Everyone I know wishes their kids had fewer toys. So, I stick to Books, Zoo Passes or passes to places that won't clutter up the house more than it is.

HTH!

A felt set from Storyteller. The Monsters set is cool (goes with the book "Where the Wild Things Are"...which is a classic childrens lit book)

There are other very boyish sets there. The pirate set would be cool to use in the bathtub.

Here is a link to a party that I have open until Monday and the prices are at 20% off. http://www.amitymama.com/vb/showthre...hreadid=192570

You could also ask Karen what felt set would be good as she knows the company better than I do. Karen is a WAHM Amity mama and I think felt is a exceptional natural, open-ended, educational gift.

This 20% off is on top of sale prices....so check out the sale section too. (they are also offering pre-cut sets if you don't want to cut them out or if you think the mom would not take the time to cut them out, KWIM?)

It seems like most parents don't ever think of educational toys...unless they are battery operated.

I decided to give Storyteller Felt sets this year as gifts to family/friends. We need more simple play that is educational.

Magazine subscriptions are what we're asking for this year...

Lindsey's 3 and we're asking for The Big Backyard
Josh will be 2 and we're asking for Wild Animal Baby

both are the same company.. and you know how much kids LOVE mail
