I need IDEAS for my DS's 19TH Birthday!!

I'm getting desperate. My very first baby turns 19 years old tomorrow. My only other baby will be 4 years old in July. I like to take things one at a time. Anyway, he has absolutely NOTHING to suggest except this one particular CD he wants. Well, that's easy. Does anyone have any other ideas? He's a really offbeat kid, living at home after a year out on his own, attending jr. college, plays guitar in a band .... HELP!!!

By the way, he has to work on his birthday, so we're probably going to put off the actual ~*~ celebration ~*~ until a time when we can all be together. So I have a little extra time.

Thanks!!!
Mary

what cd was it that he wanted? that might help us ferret out what he might like. does he have any piercings? what about video games? you could get him a gift certificate to the mall so he can get whatever he wants. even kids who hate the mall can usually find things to buy there.
good luck

Ummmmmm..... okay, this REALLY is the name of the band. He wants a CD by Pussy Galore. They're loud, offensive, all that great stuff. He's also very much into indie rock. A friend of mine with her own record company always says, "He's such a little indie kid" every time she sees him. No piercings ANYMORE. He did have his nipple pierced and ... some kind of posts in each ear -- they were like "gauges" -- BIG holes in his ears. A few months ago, he just took it all out and never put it back in. Video games are a good idea..... THANKS!

at that age my little brother was into cd's video games, girls and his car!

does your ds have a car? I once gave my brother gift certificates to get his car washed, and then in a little box put some window cleaner, tire wash etc inside with airfreshener etc.. and a small shopvac for xmas. he seemed to enjoy it all.

you could throw in his fav cd with it to make it a whole pkg?

what did he study in school? what are his other interests??

Pussy Galore is still around? I used to listen to them when *I* was 16. That was very long ago!

19-year olds usually need clothes, but rarely like anything given to them by anyone else. Gift certificates to clothing stores he likes may work -- unless he was like me at that age. I only wore hand-me-down military & thrift store clothes.

funny isn't it? it's amazing when you hear about bands from your childhood that are still bein listened to. the mall has hot topic now so he might have to sneak in but once he's there
but on another note if he is the sort of kid who wouldn't get caught dead in a hot topic.I certainly wouldn't have. there is an online store called Angry, Young & Poor it carries all manner of indie, emo, punk, hardcore, etc stuff. I almost garauntee he can find somethng he likes there and i'm pretty sure they do gift certifcates.

Gift cards. They are my 17 yr old's favorite gift. Same with my teenage nieces. Maybe one to Best Buy so he can get that CD or something else he would like.

Does he wear cologne? I got my son some cologne for Xmas and he really liked it. Or since he plays guitar, maybe a gift card to the music store. There are some great accessories he could buy for his guitar. My son bought a new amplifier the last time he got a gift card.

Just a few thoughts....

Happy Birthday dear Christopher!

What about some private guitar lessons from some older but still cool musician lurking in town? Book a session for him at a local recording studio to make an acoustic single? Get him a 3 day amtrak pass and $200 to go and explore on his own? Membership at the local art museum?

have fun with your baby! Cathy

LOL!!!! You mamas have some great ideas!! Okay, norasmama, you hit it right on the head when you said only stuff from thrift stores. What is THAT all about?!?! For the longest time, he would only wear these old man pajama tops and corduroy pants. He and his buddies load up in the car (yes, he has a car) and head to the thrift stores at least once a month or so. Last night, he drove to Dallas to see Sonic Youth and he was sooooo completely casual. And Selissa, you're right -- he wouldn't be caught dead in Hot Topic! My mother thought she was doing all the good when she got him a few sweaters from there for Christmas. NOT! That's what's so hard -- he doesn't seem to like any of the stuff we think he should!

Thanks, Cathy! He and his friends are actually working on putting together a recording studio. Right now, it's in our house.

I'm off to see if I can find Angry, Young & Poor.......

Thanks again for everyone's great ideas!!!

Maybe you could get him a gift certificate to a local music store...in case he needs any equipment. How much were you looking to spend?

Also, you could look for a Pussy Galore tshirt? Here's another link for ya: http://www.interpunk.com I do a lot of shopping there! lol!

Of course you will make him a cake......yes? (lol)

and perhaps you could give him some lovely, mushy letter about how much fun he has been to observe all these years. Then you could ask him which he would prefer.......... two twenty dollar bills or four tens?!

Then he can do whatever he wants wherever he wants (within reason!!!!!)

Give him a hug from all of us! (an extra one and he doesn't need to know you count it for us )

MARY!!!

Hi!!! How are you doing?!!! Look in my sig--that's MORGAN!! Can you believe it?!! And he's 4 inches taller now! These kids, they have to stop growing!!

So I guess he's a little old for Chuck E. Cheese, huh??

Would he like a natural air freshener for his car? I sell a really cool one. It's not like a pine tree cut out, it looks more like a little canteen/vile thingy, and has essential oils in it...(I think, I can't find my info sheet about it at the moment), for about $10.

Money and gift cards are always good. Does he like to go to the movies or rent movies, gift cards to there...though gift cards are not so much fun to give. You could do like a gift basket, get one of those big popcorn tubs and do the GC, and add in some microwave popcorn, giant sized candy, Coke, etc. Or if you know a video he has been wanting, you could put that in there. (Basic, Harry Potter, Ocean's Eleven, Matrix, Star Wars, Xmen, Bruce Almighty...)

Visa does gift cards now too, so you can spend them anywhere that takes a credit card. You just load them up with however much money you want to add, and give away! They're re-chargable too, which is a nice way to be able to give money in the future, just reload it.

Happy Birthday to your ds!
