I have a dog, 12.5-years old, terrier, and she has congestive heart failure. I have known this for some time. She has been on Enalapril for a while. At first it was one tablet a day, then moved to two tablets a day and has been at this dose for about 3 months.
Recently I mentioned to the vet that it looked like her chest was swelling, so he had me bring her in. I just got back... paid $168
Her heart has enlarged, looking more like a mini soccer ball.

They took the xray and he said that her heart is pushing on the chest walls. He then goes on to say this is not THAT bad, but not great either.
He reduced the Enalapril back down to one tablet a day, but added two more medications! A lasix once a day and a new medication, vetmedin.
Vetmedin alone was $54! But he said they have had some really good results with it.
Monthly: $54 - Vetmedin, $20 - Enalapril and Lasix $15.50
Grand total: $89.50 a month for medication for my dog!
I have been checking out getting these medications online, but how reliable are these places. The ones I did look at want the scripts from the vet...that is good... but how do i know the medications will be the same?
This is really going to be putting a damper on my budget. Does anyone have any suggestions?
