I need some potty training help

ok first background

Our puppy is an 8 month old boxer/cattle dog mix (maybe something else in their too). she is going blind slowly and is a big time fear barker because of it. she is generally well behaved and intelligent but is very boisterous...she is very very much like a boxer in temprement, very happy and very sweet. she is a rescue dogand has a fair amount of seperation anxiety also

now here is the problem. up until the weather started turning bad she was house trained. now it has been raining every day for the last week...at least. and if it is raining, snowing, cold, or humid she won't poop outside. I have toddler and so i can not sit outside indefiantly in cold miserable weather. so the dang dog ends up beign kenneled all day long because she will not poop outdoors.

and before you ask..yes she really has to go because if i dont' kennel her she poops on the floor, every single time. i can sit outside with her for 20 miutes and she will sit and sniff the air...come inside and immeadiatly poop on the floor. she has a potty command and she even listens to it when the weather is nice..but not when the weather is icky.

i am soo frustrtated right now. because she will ask to go out side if she is bored but not if she has to go to the bathroom. i feel bad for her being locked up in her kennel all day, she whimpers at me just about the whole time.

But i will not pick dog poop off the floor three times a day for the rest of the winter...i will not..never mind that right now it makes me puke

so anyone have any hints on how to get this dang dog to poop outside even when it is rainy or otherwise icky?

please..i'd really like a fully housetrained dog

right now i spend every morning so mad at her because she won't poop but she won't stop whining in her kennel and every single time i have mercy on her and let her out before she poops she immeadiatly poops on the floor

it is a very unpelasent cycle and must end

no suggestions

but I'm watching your thread

My beagle/jack russell (10m) was trained to ring the bell to go out until the boys trained her to go on our deck (long story...) so now she's confused. I'm tired of the accidents...including in her crate.

Urgh.

She's too smart to have these issues. She'll ring the bell every 5 min due to boredom (I have to keep her kong-happy or give her treat balls where she has to work to get the treat out to keep her occupied) so I know she *knows* what it means (she likes to go out to sniff... )

So, I'm watching your thread for ideas...

OUr dog Reggie sounds just like your dog Selissa. He hates to get his pretty little paws wet and will not pee or poop when it is wet, raining, snowing, etc...

He is 6yrs old and what we found that works is that we actually have to take him on to the grass and tell him over and over to go pee/poop. Whenever he walks back towards us we point our arm away from us in a direction he should go and give him a gently nudge of encouragement if needed. We use a stearn voice and though it took some time for it to set in, and on occasion we sound like a broken record, he is much much better about it now.

Be consistent and still give him a treat once he hsa done his deed so that he knows he will be rewarded for a good deed. You can stop the treats later once he has no problem following your commands. Just love on him then.

Good Luck

Have you tried putting her on a leash, right out of her kennel, and walking her out the door so she doesn't stop between the crate and outside? Also if you have a fenced yard you could just leave her out to go, just provide a doghouse with a blanket for her to lay in. Eventually she'll have to go. I know that seems really cruel given her background, but that's all I can think of besides what the other post said about repeating the comand and giving her a treat.

The only other thing I can think of solves the floor problem, but not the inside problem so it's still kinda gross. Actually I'd say it's full on gross, but it beats the floor. They make litter pans for dogs. No joke. Big ones even. Maybe you could get her accustomed to that for the winter and still encourage her out side. You could keep it on your utility porch or in your bathroom. Somewhere where it wouldn't be so gross.

Oh and hey, OT.... Remember way back when, when I told you about my ex? Well I moved away from Sacramento last dec, and guess who walks in my store in March. Uh huh. "Tell her I'm back" is what he said. Left me almost three years earlier and he thinks I'm going to come running. Uh huh.
