I have long hair Chihuahua dogs and I don't want to make them sick from all the chemicals. IS there anything around the house that would work. THey have had them for a while and I just can't kill them with out making these sweet little girls sick.
Please help if you know of a way that really works.

Sprinkle borax around your house, leave it there for 5 days, then vacuum and burn the vacuum bag. Keep some sprinkled around their bedding all the time to avoid more.

But what about my 3 year old son? Won't that hurt him?
I think that the affect of having fleas sucking their blood for such a long time, not to mention the physical nuisance would be worse than the affects of Advantage or other available flea solutions. Borax is still a strong chemical, and I don't know that I would want it in my house out in the open.
You can bathe them often, probably every day or two, and wash all of their bedding in HOT HOT HOT water, and dry on hot. Also, vacuum like crazy everywhere they go. You can get flea combs & comb them a LOT- dip the comb in hot, soapy water periodically to wash away the fleas & flea dirt & eggs. These were all the suggestions that we were given for our cat who just had kittens. That was not being successful, and for the health of the kittens, our vet gave us advantage for the mama. Within 2 days, the fleas were gone from mama & the babies. Knock on wood they stay gone! We were told that the chances of small animals developing anemia from fleas was high, and would adversely affect them. For us, it seemed safer to dose with advantage once than risk the anemia, not to mention our sanity & keeping the fleas away from our children.

I have been using over the counter pesticides. That was why I asked. My dogs are very sensitive and I have been bathing them in flea control and flea collars and using Hartz spray and now Hartz that you put on the skin in a straight line from head to tail (not all at once, as directed) but it is making them sick. I thought I could give them a break and try some thing natural that might work and not case them to vomit and such. The youngest Taffy is getting sick the worse and so I don't want to wake some morning and find her dead to tell the truth.
I know the fleas are bad. I was raised in KY and say what happened to my dads bird dogs but I don't want to kill her with chemicals either. I am only trying to do what my heart tells me and it says to many chemicals.

I have also heard the borax thing works well. Also neen oil (can buy at health food store) or mt rose (banner in my sig) and also get your pets to eat as much garlic as they can handle. Like grind it in their food if you can.

Google it, it's natural and actually good for your pets to eat a small amount. I give our animals brewers yeast. The dog is outside and has never had fleas, but we feed him very good food. The cat got tape worms at least 9 times last year. I changed her food to the same brand as the dogs and she has not had a flea since. We feed them Innova brand food. For the cat I buy a medium size bag for about $13 and it lasts at least a month. It's a lot cheaper than taking her to the vet to be de-wormed every month.
