How can I socialize this cat?

When we bought this house last month, the owner couldn't get one of her cats into a carrier, so she left him here (after I agreed to caring for him). She basically said that he comes every night to eat and that's about it - that he is not an inside cat and not overly friendly.

I've been feeding him every night and he's finally to the point where he'll let me touch him - but I am a little worried about him. He seems so thin - and his eyes looked goopy. I'd love to get him inside and care for him better - maybe even get him to the vet for a checkup. How can I get him to trust me a little more? I'm worried for his health.

You should catch him & take him to the vet if you're worried about him. Coax him inside with a can of tuna.

Catching the Cat

You might try contacting your local vet and asking to borrow a live trap to catch the cat. We had to do that for a wild cat that we were feeding at my mom's house. She looked really thin and sick so we called the vet and he was more than happy to loan us a trap. Then, we baited it with a can of tuna and had the cat within a couple of hours. Now, my mother has the cat and has turned it into a real sweetie. She really only needed medical attention to make her feel better then we couldn't seem to get her off of us! LOL
